    Hoover Convertible 728

I use Dirt Devil Type-U bags with the Type-A fill tube and bellows on my old bottom fill Convertibles. The type-U bags are a good bit smaller than the Hoover type-A ones and fit nicely in the original outer bag.

    Portapower vs. Platinum Collection

I'll probably wind up spending the extra $30 or so dollars to get the PortaPower; the bags for it are cheaper and according to the schematics it has a dual-stage motor. I haven't able to find any info as to rather or not the one from the platinum collection is dual or single-stage. I'm guessing...

    Portapower vs. Platinum Collection

Aside from differences such as bag type and appearance etc, does anyone know if there is any difference in performance between the current Hoover Portapower as opposed to the one sold under the Platinum Collection?

    Hoover Elite C1404

@dwhdarren97 It is indeed a 4-row brushroll. If I had to guess I'd say it probably performs at least as well as the Hoover one. It does a nice job of grooming the carpet too. I included a link to the cheapest I've been able to find it online. Hope that helps...

    Hoover Elite C1404

It's not a quiet vacuum but it's not unbearably loud, at least to me. I swapped out the original brushroll for a wooden CWP one which made it a bit smoother and quieter I think.

    Hoover Elite C1404

I just bought one of these the other day since reading on here that Hoover ceased production on them and can confirm it is indeed an attachment port. It didn't come with attachments however.

    Hoover Convertible speed switch

Could anyone here go about telling me how to remove the motor leads from the speed switch on a Convertible? I got a NOS two-speed high performance off of eBay that I'd like to install in my 719 and I've got no idea how to go about doing this.

TERRIBLE SMELL FROM HOOVER CONVERTIBLE MOTOR!

It sounds like what you're seeing is normal though. The area where the brushes come into contact with the armature will have a black/brownish film which acts as both a dry lubricant/conductor to reduce sparking. Can you post a pic though?

    Eureka ESP curb find

This machine has the lightweight upside down ESP motor so the procedure for assembling/dissasembling is somewhat different. This generally is not a long lasting motor when compared to the pancake or blender motors so ESPs like this are somewhat hard to come by. I found a link to a blow up...

TERRIBLE SMELL FROM HOOVER CONVERTIBLE MOTOR!

Did you drain the oil out before you reassembled?

    Hoover Convertible U4371-042

You're referring to the brushroll right?

    Eureka Boss 1934A

First you need a torx driver to remove the dial-a-nap knob. Once you've done that, remove the two screws holding the hood that are on the underside of the machine and the hood will come right off.

    Eureka Boss 1934A

If it doesn't need much in the way of parts then I'd say go for it as you can get a new one for $100 or so. It's not a very loud machine at all I don't think.

    To beat..or not to beat....

I generally prefer the VibraGroomer II but I do have that brushroll in one of my Eureka ESPs and it does a really good job on plush carpet. It's a bit quieter/smoother than a VG II as well. If you want, you can upgrade it's performance a bit more by swapping out those generic black brush strips...

    Seating New Brushes

There's no way to get at the commutator while the machine's running so the only way to seat the brushes on a Convertible is to just let them run in.
  16. M

    VGI or VGII??

Definitely the Vibra Groomer II , although that generic 4 brush agitator is quite a good performer if it's outfitted with the genuine Eureka brush strips.

    Brush Roll strips

Hoover still makes those brush strips, the part # is 48445001.

    Calling those with Eureka knowledge!

Afaik, the only way to remove the upper bearing is with a bearing press. If it's been a long time since it's been serviced the armature has probably fused to the lower bearing, a couple taps with a hammer should loosen it up though.

    Getting an 80s Eureka Soon

Here's a link for a cheaper one It looks like it should be a nice machine after a good cleaning. It wouldn't work on the motor cover, but a good soak in some Evapo-Rust following by a bit of rubbing with some coarse steel wool is a good way to bring rusted parts back to life...

    I need a new base for a Decade 80

Is the base from this machine suitable? The original base is NLA so I'm wondering if this will work. It looks like it has the mounting for the right hand headlight socket. Does anyone know for sure if the diagram is correct? http://www.vacpartswarehouse.com/Hoover-C1067-s/613.htm
