    Sharp Twin Energy vacuum

Great vac! I mainly like Electrolux, but bought a Sharp Twin Energy brand new about 20 years ago. Still runs great. Have to take the brush roll apart every now and then to get hair build up out of the end where the bearings are so the brush roll will stop when it is switched from rug mode to...

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

Thanks Dan I missed my Guardian Platinum while it was in the shop and glad it's back in action. I was using my Diamond Jubilee while the GP was in the shop, and while the Diamond is still a great vacuum, the Guardian Platinum is just a lot more refined and easier to use.

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

I picked up my GP from the shop today. Sales rep said that the cord had gotten overlapped in one of the tracks. I guess when the cord was retracting one time something jumped track so to speak. Anyway, whatever he did to repair it seems to have worked and it now retracts pretty well, a lot...

    Electrolux LX

Alex Hope you feel better soon. Thank you for letting me know that the one screw will not affect the ejection mechanism. I think I'd like to keep the bag holder, but I may try it both ways to see which one I like best. I'll be sure to post some pictures soon and I'll keep you posted on the...

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

Well, I dropped the GP off at the shop yesterday and the sales rep said that is the first one he's seen come back with a cord rewind problem, and that there is something definitely wrong with it and won't know for sure until he gets it on the workbench. It's supposed to be finished Friday.

    Electrolux LX

Hi Alex I'm sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Hopefully it will pass soon. The wheels arrived safe and sound. I've had a little trouble removing the bag holder to put the swivel wheel in, but then I did not want to force something and break it. I'm planning to try the hose repair...

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

Thanks Dan I resisted the urge to try and figure out how it comes apart. Since it's under warranty, I'll let the shop take care of it. Greg

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

Dan, Gary: Thanks for your advice. Looks like it's to my friendly, local Aerus shop it goes. Hopefully it's a quick, easy fix. I love my GP. It's one nice looking, quiet, powerful vacuum. Kudos to Aerus.

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

Gary Yes, I hold onto the end of the cord to make sure it doesn't snap around while it's retracting. It used to be pretty strong and has recently gotten a lot weaker. I wasn't sure if using some talc on the cord would fix it so I wouldn't have to take it in for service. Greg

Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

Anyone else having trouble with a slow / weak cord rewind on a Lux Guardian Platinum? Mine is about 18 months old. When it was brand new the cord retracted pretty forcefully, but lately it has gotten pretty weak and I need to help the cord along. The vacuum is still under warranty, and I may...

Which Vintage Vacuums Could Still Be Marketed Today?

I think a revamped Olympia One or Diamond Jubilee would be interesting. I think they probably could not produce that style and make a profit if they kept all the chrome trim etc. they truly don't make them like that anymore. The Lux Guardian Platinum is a similar shape, I think it's a great...

    Electrolux LX

Hi Alex Vanilla on a cotton ball would probably last a little longer too. About the latex for the hose repair, a friend of mine in the stage business at work had a pint of the liquid latex he said I could have. He said the latex has a limited shelf life and this bottle was nearing that time...

    Electrolux LX

piscesinphoenix--using dryer sheets is a great idea! I'll give it a try and see how it works. In my other vacuums I usually pour in some vanilla scented product that looks something like potpourri to keep them smelling nice, but the LX kind of threw me when I saw it had a filter on the rear exhaust.

Alex: I think it will be fun to try the repair for the hose. Once I get some of the latex and practice on an old hose first. Sounds like you live in a nice area away from lots of city traffic, my kind of living. I'll keep you posted on the hose repair. Greg

    Electrolux LX

Hi Alex Sounds great! I read the article on using the latex on hoses. I've never restored a hose before but I'm willing to try it. The wheels sound great! Thank you!

    Electrolux LX

WOW, what a nice wall of tools!! Alex, as close as I can tell, I'm missing the 2 white bristle brushes and the crevice tool. My LX came with the sprayer top, but not the clear jar. The seller said the jar broke when he got the vacuum. It also came with the floor polisher, but do you know...

    Electrolux LX

Thank you Alex! I'll look the thread up shortly. I looked at the manual in the archive, but last week I was searching ebay and found a 1954 Electrolux LX manual with a starting bid of $5.99 and I was the only bidder. The manual is almost museum quality. I had seen other manuals for the earlier...

    Electrolux LX

Alex, yes, I was able to read through the Electrolux data. I learned quite a bit I especially enjoyed the pictures on the repair of the eject mechanism. Thank you for sharing, you obviously put a lot of time into the research, and it is a big help to understanding the history of Electrolux...
