    Old Hoover Parts

Could anyone recommend an online store from which to purchase older Hoover parts? I'm after some brush strips and a brush roll for a model 65, as well as some other bits and pieces. I found two stores in the UK that listed the parts, but neither of them seems interested in replying to my emails...

    Hoover 61 "Spa" treatment

Nice work ... Is that the original bag? The colouring looks as if it could be, but it looks quite different from the UK and Australian models.

Replacing brush strips in Hoover 65 brushroll

Could somebody explain how you get the strips out of the roll? I can remove the end cap and central spindle, exposing the ends of the roll. I thought the old strip would just slide out, but it seems tightly stuck in place. I don't want to damage the strip as it a "donor" to be placed in a better...

Trying to date a Dialamatic PowerDrive

Thanks for the update. I had a closer look at the weekend and couldn't see how a square button could be turned, so I assumed you were looking at a slightly different model. You're right about the powerdrive taking long strides. It's run away from me a couple of times ... luckily it stops dead...

    Hoover Model 28

Big Bag! Now that's the way I remember the bag on my mum's 612 when I was a kid. I have a 612 now, but somehow it's bag doesn't inflate in quite the same way ... that 28 is awesome

Trying to date a Dialamatic PowerDrive

Turn-push??? I've been wondering why you have to hold your finger on that button to disengage the PowerDrive ... I hadn't tried a turning motion to lock it in place though. Thanks!!

    Now for a Dialamatic

Thank again ... Hi Mark, Thanks for the update, and the picture of the later model with the power switch on the side. And thanks to Fred and Norm too. It's interesting to see the dates differing according to where the model was first released/made. The model 61 was in the US around 1940, but...

    Now for a Dialamatic

Hi again, This is another machine I recently acquired, however it's still in Melbourne at my brother's place, so I don't have a better photo. The ID plate has fallen off the base. It's just a sticker and my brother tells me there's some residual glue, now covered in fluff, where the plate...

Trying to date a Dialamatic PowerDrive

Hi everyone, I got this beautiful machine last week. It was in incredibly good condition and had apparently not been used for quite some time. It really only needed some surface cleaning to be as good as new. I'm wondering when it was made. It's a U6033, with the serial number U6033808 00586...

    Australian Electrolux manual

I just love the single beds ... How naive we all were back then ... the idea of a husband and wife actually sleeping on the same matress just couldn't be acknowleded. It took until the mid 60'd before we'd start to see that on TV shows or in advertising. Or perhaps the happy housewife just...

    Your most FAVORITE vacuum

U5096, as featured at the top of the thread .. Has to be the most practical ... if they every make it again, I'll buy two. And for nostalgia, a model 612

    Vacuum Ad Proofs

Absolutely fascinating ... Thanks so much for sharing these. It's indeed amazing to think that some of them hadn't seen ink (or light of day) since 1929 and that the principles of the model 700 stood Hoover in good stead for a further 75-odd years. Cheers, Nick

    hoover turbomaster

U5096 I still use mine. It is the best cleaner ever. What I really like is that I can change fromn carpets to hard floors without bending over. I bought a newer WindTunnel machine when I thought I wouldn't be able to replace a wheel on the U5096. I hate it because you have to bend down to turn...

Family Vacs - which ones do you have?

Walter, Walter, where are you ... ? Hi Walter, Your toy 612 sounds very familiar indeed. Could you post a picture? Cheers, Nick

Family Vacs - which ones do you have?

Toy Hoover 612 Hi Walter (Newport), Your toy 612 sounds very familiar. The cream colour sounds right, no furniture guard, black PVC bag and perhaps a black platic button in the end of the handle's metal tubing. The box was even printed in the same colour ink (red) and graphic as the real 612...

Family Vacs - which ones do you have?

And my cleaner ... I still used my U5096 for our regular housework. It is by far the best cleaner I've ever had, to the extent that whenever something goes wrong with it, I try to find the parts to fix it up again. The newer WindTunnel that I bought when I didn't think I'd be able to fix the...

Family Vacs - which ones do you have?

Mum's Vac ... A brown 612, bought around 1953. I used to pretend to clean the house with it until I was old enough to actually be allowed to use it switched on. I was also given a toy replica at Christmas when I was 5 or 6, so my fascination came out early in life. I got my 612 last year. I'm...

    ANother New Consteallation

Enquiring minds, etc., etc. ... The switch ... is it down for "off" and up for "on"? That might (possibly?) be an American influence. I'm sure the Australian switches were just push-button. I have a question too ... what's the grey plug adaptor thingy its connected to? The plug at the end of...
