    Oreck "HALO" vacuum

Well, it finally arrived :) It's a nice looking upright vac. The motor is, as would be any plasto-vac, shrill. And yes, you can switch the brushroll on and off at the handle, very nice. The UV system is another story. It doesn't just come on when you use the vac, you have to depress a switch...

Bidding on ebay getting out of hand on a Eureka

I don't think... ...the sniping software can actually figure out your max bid...it just races with you in a cyber ping-pong fashion until one or the other hits max bid. Now I do think whatever bid is in the system (max or not) when the clock stops ticking on the auction -- is the winner. But...

I did not set out to rescue a free curbside vacuum today...

It's good luck... to travel with a vintage appliance. I've an old beat up Electrolux shell in the back of my Jimmy.

Bidding on ebay getting out of hand on a Eureka

Antique Road Show Oh man, Pete, that you bring that up! Yeah, someone can come in there with Marie Antionette's infamous diamond necklace and be told it's worth 10 cents. The next person has a headlight bezel from a Trailways Bus and it fetches a fortune. My favorite was watching one...

Bidding on ebay getting out of hand on a Eureka

I've heard that too, Bill, There is software and services out there to "do your sniping for you" Myself, I just use eBay's "Max Bid Amount." It's pretty effective most of the time. It really is. I've got the junk to prove it! :) And I would imagine our UK friends could tell us about the...

Bidding on ebay getting out of hand on a Eureka

All kinds of explanations... There could be all kinds of reasons the bidding would go so high. Someone with deep pockets into Eureka's. Someone who has the other colors and wants the full lineup. Who knows? Or, like any other online auction, it's a gamble, some people are high rollers. And some...

    Help with dyeing a bag.

Also... ...if you take a look in the "Owners Manuals" section, you'll the the manual for a Hoover 825 with a similar bag. Given the Owners Manual version is an artists rendition, the pic above is most likely more accurate. However, I would imagine the actual instructions themselves are not...

    My first Electrolux!

No such thing as "crowded" ...when it comes to good vacs! As far as a hose goes, talk to Dave/dirtfinder1 -- he's helping me out on my Silverado and has been great! No doubt he can get you squared away on a hose for your G. Interestingly you mention the quietness of the G -- that's what got...

I did not set out to rescue a free curbside vacuum today...

Dave, you are the ...Guardian Angel of the Vacuum Gods. Bless you for the good work you do! Beer can tabs, hairpins...nothing like a hillbilly with a Kirby! "Right down to the emptor" reminded me of my Ultimate G. The lady I bought it from absolutely hated it. BEFORE taking my money, she...

    Help with machine buffing

Some yes, some no... In the booklet on the site, you'll see a chart on machine horsepower, number of wheels you can put on a spindle, and the diameter of those wheels. The average benchtop buffer or grinder has a 1/2" shaft, hence you'll see a lot of buffing wheels with 1/2" holes in the...

    Help with machine buffing

Oh YES!! Anchor that buffer! And also, be mindful of where the part goes when it slipped out of your hands! They can leave the machine at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour and do some severe damage. Also -- invest in a pair of good work gloves. How the compounds work is both by heat and...

    Help with machine buffing

Brandon... ...there is already a thread on machine buffing - I'll link to it. Something to bear in mind -- if your 518 is "already perfect" LEAVE IT BE! :-) Anyhow, here's the link to the previous discussion... http://www.vacuumland.org/TD/THREADS/VINTAGE/5567x4.htm

    Hoover virgin no more!

Will do, Rick... ...right now, I have a Sanitronic VII on the bench. Was going to do one of the 500-series Kirby's next. But I think instead I'll slot in one of these Hoovers. I have a few pics uploaded to my album here, but need to upload some more. Jack, thanks for posting those pics! That...

    Hoover virgin no more!

WOW!!! That. Is. Absolutely. Beautiful! This is an example of what I love about this hobby. The restoration to their former glory. They are works of art in their own way, beautiful to look at. Nothing the average consumer (note I said average consumer -- not us) buys today can compare.

    Hoover virgin no more!

And lastly...love the... ...switc-H :-) A bit more restore work to do on this one than the 300. Some kind of reasonable bumper. Bag is not original, but serviceable. Also, I understand these did not have a chrome-look finish, but more a satin finish. I think I can do that :)

    Hoover virgin no more!

Very nice indeed! ...worrying that the 300 would get lonely all by itself, I took my own advice and picked up another Hoover... This time a 700. Some pics:
