    I used to hate these!

I have that same model. Yours is dated April of 1999 and mine is 1 month newer, from May of 1999. The North Canton produced WindTunnels were some of the best plastic vacuum cleaners ever made. Enjoy it!

somthing along the lines of sebo

Even funnier still is the fact that a Brit is wearing the American flag whilst running a German vacuum cleaner. It's like the United Nations in a bedroom.

    Prolux?

If you're referring to this style of machine, the ProLux was the commercial version of the Electrolux Discovery style upright of the late 80s through the late 90s.

2001 Hoover Professional Dual Purpose C1417-903

Your cleaner was made in January of 2001. With the American machines made from 1987 until 2007 or so, the first 4 digits of the serial number are the month and year of manufacture.

what should my next vacuum(s) be?

If you're not opposed to having an upright, a fantastic choice is the new Hoover WindTunnel MAX Pet Plus. It has a 28' cord with a cord winder so you don't have to wrap up the cord when you're done vacuuming, the brushroll shuts off with the click of a pedal for use on bare floors, it features...

What is the quietest vacuum cleaner of all time, and what is the noisiest? "Discuss."

There truly are very few machines as quiet, nor as musical sounding as a metal bodied Electrolux or a Hoover Constellation. As far as uprights go, the Electrolux uprights (Discovery style) are very quiet too. Noisiest definitely goes to many of the cheap plastic bagless machines sold in retail...

    Hoover Elite 600 Question

It would definitely look better with an original white/grey cord or a black cord. Those orange cords just look gaudy on household machines. If you want a period correct cord, shoot me an email. I think I have a spare one kicking around.

    vacuums, vacuums, vacuums!

What town in central Jersey are you in? I'm in that area a few times a month.

    Needing a new shopvac....

I would strongly recommend a Sears/Craftsman model as well. Mine is about 6 years old, has been through absolute hell, and still sounds as new as it did the day it came out of the box.

    A slew of new toys

Rob, I knew the Platinum Bagless upright and the commercial PortaPower were parts machines when I got them, so I really had no expectations of them. They're worth more in pieces than as whole machines.

    A slew of new toys

Big thanks to John Gregory for getting me setup with all of these wonderful floor care products! Here he poses with his pride and joy, the 1976 Bicentennial Convertible that I gifted to him. Sitting next to the Convertible is a gift box of all kinds of treasures for our dear friend Dennis...

And we can't forget the hardwoods and tile! For those quick pickup jobs, we have a Platinum Series Cyclonic Stick Vac (corded). This thing gets used at least twice a day.

T-Series Bagged I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner. It's well priced, well built, and performs beautifully.

    A slew of new toys

Platinum Series, anybody? This thing, while very cool looking, is an absolute monstrosity. Circuit boards in vacuum cleaners are just a bad idea. This too has since been stripped down for parts and the rest shitcanned. It wasn't worth repairing after it tripped my circuit breakers twice.

    A slew of new toys

I managed to find a picture of the Commercial Lightweight and the Commercial WindTunnel together from before the Lightweight went to its new home.

    A slew of new toys

John also gave me this Commercial PortaPower that someone dumped on his doorstep. The poor thing is absolutely shot. The motor is burnt up, the hose is split, and it's filthy. I have since stripped it down and only the cord and the shell of the machine remain. The rest, as John Gregory would...
