Above floor cleaning on an upright, at what cost?

Growing up we only ever had one vacuum at a time. I remember a tan Hoover, and then about third or fourth grade mom and dad got a Kirby because I had allergies and asthma. However, I have a Simplicity upright and a Simplicity canister now, because I like both worlds, the canister for...

    Kirby G4 thrift store find

I sealed the fan housing of mom and dad's Heritage II with 100% clear silicone caulking @ 15 years ago, it was still good when I tore it apart again in the fall of last year. A new tube ran me @ $4-5 at the hardware store.

    Simplicity Synergy X9 or G9?

I got lucky, I guess -- not to be gauche and talk pricing, but I paid $650 brand new for mine. The other dealer in town wanted nearly $900 for the same thing. It was a pretty fair deal.

    Simplicity Synergy X9 or G9?

Ended up getting the Synergy Standard. Didn't seem worth the extra $140 for the Premium, or the hassle of ordering it, since our current vacuum has been crap for a while and the house was starting to get a mess. Also picked up a Simplicity Jill canister. We have a fairly small house and the...

Made in the USA, does it matter? What is truly built to last?

Is Kirby still US made? Just curious as I don't know. Parts of the Simplicity line are US made and parts are quietly made "by our supplier in the Orient," although I had heard the canisters were supposed to be moving production to the US, which seems not to have happened yet?

    Simplicity Synergy X9 or G9?

One nice thing about the place I went to is that they were low pressure. They haven't tried to upsell me or change me over to anything else. However, the last place I bought vac parts at was always telling me the old car salesman song and dance: "Your vacuum is crap, this one is better." I...

    Simplicity Synergy X9 or G9?

PS, why is it so hard to get someone to want to sell me the Premium? I've been to two Simplicity dealers and both only stocked the Standard -- you ask about the Premium and it's like you've asked them for a kilo of cocaine or something.

    Simplicity Synergy X9 or G9?

I have narrowed the vacuum decision down to the Synergy Premium or Standard (X9 or G9). I like the Rattlesnake color of the Premium, but the only other difference between the two seems to be a light that illuminates as dirt is being sucked up, to let you know it's working. Is it worth it to...

Fair asking price for Kirby G-4?

I got it listed on Ebay. I went a bit lower than the one you linked, but not too much since it does have the rug shampooer/rug restorer. Certainly not trying to get rich on this one, just would like to get it to a good home. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321065893547

    Need help identifying vintage Kirby

Good points, that's my poor wording. It may have been used, hard to say. No one I have spoken to has any recollection of it being used. Thanks for the advice! I have it up now with one day to go. Not thinking it's a goldmine, just want to get a fair selling price and have it go to a good...

Consumer Reports (March 2013) Vacuum Tests

I have noticed their reverse-elitist bias as well. There also seems to be a distinct anti-American-brand product review bias as well, most noticeable in their auto reviews. Anything Lexus, Toyota, or Honda will get all top marks, anything American will rank somewhere between a piece of crap...

Fair asking price for Kirby G-4?

I am going to be selling a Kirby G-4, either locally or on Ebay. Just wondered what a fair asking price for it in good used condition with no tools, etc., just the vac.

    Simplicity Vacs any good?

Perhaps she quoted me the wrong price, but I have a copy of a card with a photo/specs of the dark blue Synergy model, $1139 list price, with $649.00 written on it by the sales person at the store. Supposed to be new, not refurbished or anything. I guess it would be the X-9 because the price on...

Consumer Reports (March 2013) Vacuum Tests

If you have them, could you post the reports for upright bagged vacs for me? We are in the market but don't have CR.

    Simplicity Vacs any good?

I was quoted the Synergy for $649 at local dealer and one of the aluminum-handled models lower than it for $399. At the very least we need the capability of the floor selector switch which starts in the $399 models -- our house is about 60/40 hardwood/vinyl to carpet. I will check out the 7...

    Simplicity Vacs any good?

LOL, certainly not rich here. I mean, Kirbys I have seen run @ $1700. We're both tired of buying "cheap" $100-200 vacs that crap out or lose suction within a year or two and cannot be repaired. Our hope is that we spend more and cry now rather than spend less and cry later. A $649 Simplicity...

    Simplicity Vacs any good?

Wife and I are considering the purchase of a new vacuum. We like the Simplicity models for their US-made status as well as the fact that they seem very nice. Long-time Kirby owner but not a fan of the hand-me-down G-4 we got to replace our Heritage II, which went back to mom and dad because...
