    Rusted together

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get the old pulley off. I cleaned everything up, replaced the lower and upper bearings. However, it looks like I'm going to have to take it to a shop for service. The armature is rubbing up against the field and I'm not sure how to go about properly...

    Rusted together

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get off a rusted belt pulley from a Convertible? I've already tried repeated sprayings of WD-40 as well as soaking it in CLR overnight to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

Which fan to use on a classic Convertible.

The original metal 11-blade or or the newer 6-blade? Has anyone compared the two to see which is the best performer?

    She's A Beauty :)

I'm jealous that you found that. That was one of the vacs my mother had when I was growing up and it unfortunately was junked many years ago. I've been trying to find one but 80s Eureka vacs seem to be much more difficult to find than Convertibles from the era. This has the upside down motor and...

    Eureka The Boss 7671

It sounds like you need new carbons if the motor is acting intermittent like that. My understanding is that these motors run fairly hot so the brushes burn down fairly quickly.

    Hoover convertible

It looks like it has the wide bag, if you want to convert to type-A bags you can just just replace the bellows and fill tube to do so.

    vacuum followed me home today!

There is a 4-brush VG1 available from Eureka that is used on the Sanitaire red line, I believe. It's possible to remove one row of brushes and replace them with beater bars. However, a new ball bearing VG2 is only $20 from Hesco so you may want to go that route instead.

How to Service Bearings (Video Guide...)

Thanks for these, I've just been guessing at what the proper way is to service ball bearings.

    Sanitaire question

It's the pancake style 7 amp motor. The bearing is still good but the previous owner of the vacuum must have kept it in the garage or basement as there was a good bit of rust on some parts.

    Sanitaire question

How do I get off a rusty upper bearing retainer? Thanks.

    Sanitaire motor gasket

What sort of adhesive should I use to glue a new motor gasket onto my Sanitaire? The gasket failed on my S662 and it was spewing dirt and lint underneath the hood. Thanks.

    Eureka 1489a Hood

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a new hood for a Eureka 1489a upright? The part # is E-539744. I've tried Hesco and they were unable to order it as it has been discontinued. Google was fruitless. Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Eureka 1400 lower bearing replacement

Is there any sort of trick to getting the old bearing out of the retainer?

    Eureka 1400 lower bearing replacement

What parts do I need to replace the lower bearing on a 1489A upright with a 4.8 amp motor? Also, how do I go about installing it? I recently bought the machine off of eBay and I intend to restore it as completely as possible. Thanks.

    Replacing motor brushes

Can anyone tell me how I go about replacing the motor brushes on a Decade 80? I recently acquired one through eBay and figured I might as well replace them while I have the machine apart. Thanks in advance.

    Suitable bearing?

So how do I remove the bearing retainer then? It looks to be riveted on and I'm not quite sure how to proceed.

    Suitable bearing?

Well it's for a U4423 convertible. Doesn't the bearing simply come out of the retainer once the armature is removed?
