Success! Nathan, thanks for your help! It was simple to open. I was just a little worried about putting too much pressure on the fan. But it opened right up. It's all cleaned out and smells like it should!

I have an Electrolux Olympia One that has that typical musty motor smell. I want clean the fans but I'm not certain how to stabilize the armature in order to remove the nut on the fan end of the motor. I'm sure it's something simple but I've never serviced an Electrolux motor before. Thanks...

Thanks, David!  I'll try letting the water rest before pouring.  I did find that it doesn't take as much coffee.  I brew for 3 minutes.  Everything I've read says 2 to 4 minutes.  I'll try the water trick and keep experimenting!

A new fan case is the best way to go.  You could buy a new screw and a kit to re-thread the fan case.  But it's cheaper and EASIER to go with the new fan case.  Be sure and use some clear silicone caulk when installing the new fan case so that it doesn't leak dust.
