    Kirby Tile and Grout cleaner

I gave Kirby parts a call and found out that they don't sell this kit directly, and only allow resellers to sell it. They explained that you hand-spray the pre-treat, and hand-spray the cleaning solution, then buff/scrub it with the included brush roller, just as described above. No extra steps...

Tile and Grout cleaning with pre-Generation Kirbys

This is a follow-up on a thread in the Contemporary forum, linked below. The new Kirby Tile and Grout cleaning kit seems nice, but obviously won't work with older pre-Generation models. Kirby sells their grout cleaner and pre-treatment by itself, and you can brush your floors manually if you...

    Kirby Tile and Grout cleaner

Kirby's website has NO mention of this thing. They sell the tile and grout cleaner 32oz, but not the pre-treat. The tile and grout cleaner bottle does say "For use with the Kirby tile and grout brushroll" but that's it. I'm amazed that Kirby is not pushing this more... This can REALLY sell the...

    Kirby Tile and Grout cleaner

Has anyone actually tried this accessory yet? I can't find any reviews whatsoever on this product, probably since it's so new still.

Long-term Kirby ownership, and rebuild processes

Well I won't be rebuilding it for a quite long time, so it was more a hypothetical question. Also, wondering about which things are practical to self-fix.

Long-term Kirby ownership, and rebuild processes

A few years ago, our family-owned Classic Omega was rebuilt by the factory, and I was only "officially" able to pull that off by having my mother (who is the original purchaser on the invoice) sign the service request form and mail it to Kirby. I anticipate that in 10 or 15 years, if I still...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

Regarding the use of plastic wrap... I was looking at the various Kirby manuals, and the Tradition is the first one where they specifically talked about placing plastic food wrap over the suds screen to stop the flow of suds. What a hack! It's impressive to find this discussed in the manual for...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

Wow Anthony, that is some nasty stuff... I don't have that kind of gunk on my machine.. Some kind of gunk similar to this tends to deposit on the rug renovator tray, but I assumed it was normal from extra suds just getting all over the outside of the tray, and me not cleaning the tray thoroughly...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

Thanks James. I've toyed with the thought of "upgrading" to a G series Kirby quite often. However, I don't think I will. I really like the look and feel of the Omega, and it's been in the family since new, so there's that aspect of it. I was recently rebuilt, and it does a great job cleaning...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

Anthony, You're right about the odd "texture" the carpet has after the Kirby treatment. It definitely feels different afterwards from the dried suds residue left behind. On one hand there are very real allergen reducing benefits. (the allergens adhere to the residue and are lessened as a...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

I'm following the manual.. and to my knowledge, this model of Rug Renovator has no suds shutoff switch like the later ones. You just have to use all the suds, or stop, empty the container and then continue. Before the Rug Renovator was invented, Kirby recommended using the Suds-o-Gun, putting...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

I tracked down that rumble problem to the bags. Can't remember if I mentioned it here or not but I got a bag, mini emptor and fill tube assembly from a Legend II and I use the poly HEPA bags. Some bags make that sound, some don't, even when the rubber seal is totally opened on the bag. Motor...

    Re-thinking the Kirby Rug Renovator

My Classic Omega and matching rug renovator are, I guess, working as they are intended to work. But recently I question the purpose of the Rug Renovator. Not just mine, but the entire concept of the Rug Renovator. There is zero extraction of dirt or waste water other than what splatters on to...

    Wireless options

Thanks Brian, Yeah it's an investment all right... And perhaps too much of one. There's not any used ones around here, anyway but I'll keep an eye out. Meanwhile I'll clean the filters and discharge/recharge the Electrolux to see if it improves. The Swiffer looks good, but has a frequent...

    Wireless options

Sebo - interesting. Never heard of that brand til now, and now I can't stop reading about them. One thing that drives me a little crazy with Kirby is the belts. I have to change the belt about every 3 to 4 months, and in between the times when it has a fresh belt, the belt slips, and so...

    Wireless options

I have a Kirby Classic Omega, and my house is 2 story, carpet upstairs, carpeted stairs, hardwood and tile downstairs. Cleaning downstairs is often a chore involving multiple devices (Rubbermaid mop/duster, dustpan, etc) For the downstairs I also use an Electrolux Ergonomico wireless vac that...

    Kirby 1-CB motor issues

I have often toyed with the thought of buying a G series, but I can't imagine having to vacuum the stairs by hand with one of those monsters. I really do like the lean, lighter weight of these older models.

    Kirby 1-CB motor issues

Yeah these are all valid suggestions. I did use clear silicon sealant between the fan case when I put the fan back on. The sound is the same as it always was. Maybe it's the seal on front of the motor where it meets up with the rug nozzle, I dunno. I've stopped caring I think. It still cleans...

    Kirby 1-CB motor issues

Ok. I have replaced the rug plate gasket. I used a Dremmel to completely clear off all the old goo and debris before applying gasket adhesive, and firmly gluing the new one down. I let it cure for 24 hours, and reinstalled the rug plate. This did not change the other noise though. How can I...

    Kirby 1-CB motor issues

Fan is installed - all better! I will work on the rug plate gasket next. I got some awesome adhesive for it to stay put.
