The reason I collect vacuum cleaners is because I have always been fascinated with washers/dryers/dishwashers/vacuums/shampooers since I was 5 years old. I am currently 36 years old. Mechanical things always intrigue and relax me.

Sadly, The build quality and reliability of Royal/Hoover/Eureka/Sanitaire is not like it used to be in the 1980s.

IMHO, Kirby/Rainbow/Filter Queen/Thermax/Aerus Electrolux/TriStar/Riccar/Simplicity are equal in build quality and reliability. They are the best vacuums currently being made today.

I always recommend a vacuum that is rated at least Very Good in carpet cleaning/Very Good in hard floor cleaning/Good in suction/Very Good in filtration by Consumer Reports.
