Ah, sounds like the operating system has corrupted somehow. It could be fixed by reinstalling the OS, but if it is a few years old already then a new model would probably be the best solution in the long run.

Good Lord! That Electrolux 1498 in the second picture is the one we had when I was young. My first vacuum memory, in fact. I think we had discussions trying to place what model it could be but we never managed to find it. You are right about the cyclones - my mother was forever taking it...

Great pictures as always John!  I have to say I'm surprised to see that you have Maytag appliances, although they are apparently great quality I always imagined you would have a HOOVER washer and dryer.

Well, guess what just appeared on my taskbar (Win7) today?  Yep...   Needless to say I will not be clicking it, but out of interest have there been any updates in the whole Windows 10 situation recently in terms of improvements?

I'll have to keep an eye out and see if there are any HOOVER shirts around in my size!    I'm not a hat wearer either, although occasionally if it is very warm day and I'm out in the exposed sun for hours it is useful to have.
