    Post your favorite bagless vacuums!

@rdwdcp Yes it is! Funny you say that; I just bought one to add to my Dyson/Fantom collection, and it’s great! Since I started this thread, I have since added the following cyclonic vacs to my collection: NIB CY18 Cinetic Animal UP20 Ball Animal 2 NIB UP14 Big Ball Cinetic Total Clean UP13...

"Metal" Sanitaire 7 amp motors sold as new -- OEM NOS or aftermarket?

Makes sense. Thanks for the info. You have more experience than I. I’m just a sample size n=1.

"Metal" Sanitaire 7 amp motors sold as new -- OEM NOS or aftermarket?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Funny enough, my experience has been the opposite. The original old style motor which came in my S661 was a goner. The bearings were worn, the shaft was warped, and (I guess I can’t blame the motor for this, but...) the bottom plate was broken from when the...

"Metal" Sanitaire 7 amp motors sold as new -- OEM NOS or aftermarket?

Many sites show the old motor but ship the new one. The only photographic evidence that I have of the old motor being sold new is on EBay. These tend to have a bearing with red seals on top and, I have a hunch, are made by Perfect, not Sanitaire. I’ve given it thought, and I have concluded that...

No more regret: Hoover Powermax find

@oreck_xl That makes two of us! By no means am I an expert on the lineup of Powermaxes Hoover had to offer—they all predate me, actually—but I can’t say I’ve seen one more BOL than this model. Most seem to have the deluxe hose and bag top. And a headlight! Even the bag pattern on this vac is...

No more regret: Hoover Powermax find

Update #1 This past weekend, the Powermax went under the knife. As I don’t have much time to commit to vacuums anymore, I anticipate slowly chipping away at this one. First off was the bag. Straight into the wash. I must say, this bag is in great shape. No wear, no stains. From Menards, I...

First post. What would you want on a new Kirby design?

First off, welcome! I have thoughts on this, too. 1. Two motors: one for the brush and one for the suction. 2. An integrated suction/cooling fan. Handheld direct air leaf vacs have used this tech forever. Basically, one side is your normal suction fan, and the other pulls cooling air past the...

No more regret: Hoover Powermax find

@Les: Thank you! I, too, am fond of the sea blue/green. The attachment system is, in my mind, a better use of space than the help mate. @oreck_xl: Totally agree with everything you say. This vacuum most definitely never had a bag topper. It has, instead, a plastic bar sewn into the top seam...

    Glad I could help!

    New to the site

Yes, welcome! This is a good forum. I’ve been here ages—even before I had this account—but still nowhere near as long as others here. The site has had ups and, more recently, a down. However, I’m getting the feeling that Vacuumland is moving to a better course again. Negativity seems to be on...

Vacuum motors turned CCW by hand...

texaskirbyguy hit the nail on the head. You are hearing the brushes catch just a bit in the spaces between the commutator bars. Some motors will make a louder sound than others. Some won’t do it at all. It’s just design. I avoid doing this to my vac motors for the same reason texaskirbyguy...

    Miele S7210 changing belt questions

Yep, timing the retraction mechanism for the rear wheels is the other challenge. You’ve already discovered the key, though. Big tooth in big valley. If you can get that squared away, the rest is cake. There is no need to time the belt, only the rear wheel retraction mechanism.

No more regret: Hoover Powermax find

If there was one vacuum which I regretted letting go, it was my Concept 1. Today, however, I was able to kiss that little bit of regret goodbye. I purchased this BOL Powermax for $25 on Craigslist. Its only issue is a lack of upper bag support. The plastic eyelet seems to have cleanly broken...

    “Pigs on the Wing”

So, I’ll shamelessly wake up my own thread, once again, for another update. For those still listening...😅 Pro tip: backpack vacuum attachments pair very well with this vacuum. On eBay, I spent about $80 between two items: a generic 10-foot 1.5” dia crush-proof hose and a generic set of backpack...

    Miele S7210 changing belt questions

I remember asking myself this question when I performed the repair on my own (former) S7. From what I remember, there is a matching rough surface on the vac which meets with the rough surface on the wedge. If you post a picture to jog my memory, I can probably help you even better. Good luck! 🙂

    Vacuums and carpet damage

Hi everyone, I know that grit damages carpets, but, still, let’s discuss: do vacuums also damage carpets? Which is the lesser evil? Do vacuum agitators “untwist” carpet yarns over time, causing the matted look, or do they help to stand the pile back up and prevent untwisting in the high...

Aerus Fresh Era upright by Hoover

Should’ve watched the video before posting. Looks like an Oreck belt will fit. Thanks.

Aerus Fresh Era upright by Hoover

Will any of the really “common” vacuum belts fit this LuxLite? I worry that the original belts might become hard to find in a couple of years.

    Awesome Christmas gifts

Hey, those are excellent! I am thinking about getting my first shark, and the one I’m looking at is much like yours except with the “XL” dust cup.
