Another observation of older Kirby attachment boxes---
From browsing on this website and Ebay as well; There were some inconsistencys. I have noticed that the early red surface nozzle with the swivel connector had its own separate box (models 516?, 517, and 518). I have never seen this...
Older Kirby Hose Couplings
Sometimes I will use my 519 model with my Heritage II hose . It will fit; however, do not turn the lock lever too much or it may damage the coupling . Just turn the lever enough so that it attaches- but not all the way. I sometimes use this setup because I...
How simple is it to replace the headlight wires and socket in my 519 model Kirby? I have made a few attempts to re-attach a wire which was severed from the socket (from accidentally running the machine against a metal floor vent) with not much success. Ordering the part is not much of a...
Replicating old parts
Would it be possible to replicate the red trim so it would not have to be painted with the S.E M. spray paint? How easy would it be?
When I browsed a download of a Kirby service manual from the sixties, I saw a page that illustrated some rare and discontinued attachments. Amongst them were a special crevice tool or (radiator tool)which is possibly 36" long; it was the time when Kirby offered the wider crevice tool...

Thanks for the heads up about replacing the felt gasket ; I wouldn't want to waste the money and then have all that trouble.
I wish I would have taken photos of the process of installing the Heritage II fill tube in the 500-series sani-emptor, but...
I need the felt gasket to be replaced on my 519 Kirby sani -emptor -which I just somewhat crudely fitted a fill tube inside for G-3 type bags. Does Kirby still manufacture this felt gasket. or else what is another alternative?
Handi- Butler
One way to get it to trigger the safety /speed switch is to place someting behind the unit in just the right location to activate it. I did this with a much earlier model edition of handi-butler to work on my Heritage II model Kirby in which that switch is the same exact...
Are they durable enough for broken glass to be vacuumed? What should be avoided. I just had one installed in my 519 model. I have read many posts on how durable they are.
To Bikerray,
Thanks very much , it does seem rather easy, and I would save some money. What type of sealant is recomended for resealing the fan case to the motor unit?
How easy is it to replace a fan in a 500-Series Kirby? I have a 519 model that has a gray plastic fan (installed in November of '12). Since then; it has quite a few nicks in it and quite a substantial one towards the center of it. Even though it still functions ok; debris accumulates on...
How Easy Is It
to replace the fan in a 519 model Kirby? I would like to try to do this myself. As of now , it has a plastic gray fan that has some significant nicks in it and debris accumulates. Recently ,it has made screeching noises.
I had just spent six dollars for a new light bulb for my Heritage II Kirby. I replaced it because the old bulb was blinking. Now it does not work at all(after I installed the new bulb). I am quite sure it was installed correctly. What could be the problem? Is the socket mechanism worn...
