    Electrolux 1205 questions

Ok, thanks for the info! Always liked the design of the Lux in general. Somewhere I have an Electrolux duster brush with turquoise sides that flip down, to what purpose I don't know. It has real horsehair bristles, so I might add it to the vac once I find it. Also have a sprayer from Electrolux...

    Electrolux 1205 questions

Yes, it has the outlet under the hose, and the cord on the outside. It's a blue/turquoise color hose, with an outer braided cover. I got most of the dent out, but not all. If I can find a hose in the same color for under $30, I'll probably get one.

    Electrolux 1205 questions

it has the cord clipped on the outside, so it might be an earlier version. I'll try the rubber mallet trick too. thanks!

    Electrolux 1205 questions

I just bought an Electrolux 1205 for $5 today! has the hose and no other attachments. The hose has a partly crushed spot in it, any idea how to get it back in shape? tried applying pressure to it to squeeze it back, but the wire coil is pretty tough. May try my vise grips with padding on them...

    My Kirby G5 smells FUNKY.

Baking soda or activated carbon might work. Both remove odors to some extent. Activated carbon (charcoal) ADsorbs odors. yes, that's adsorb and not absorb.

found 2 old mail order cataloges

@collector2 Ok, my bad, I was under the assumption that any motor would go faster on a higher frequency, as there are devices to control motor speed by varying the frequency. I understand how the two systems differ as well, but if something is designed to be supplied by 230-240 volts from a...

found 2 old mail order cataloges

on non US 230... Do not wire two hot "legs" up to make 240 as is the practice over here! European plugs are wired with a hot, supplying 230, a neutral, and usually a ground. You need to get a step up transformer used for travel that's capable of handling the current/watts the vacuum will pull...

    Royal 105

Ah, typo on my part! Yes it is a 501. So the paperwork date is accurate. Doesn't have as much suction as my upright Royal, but then again, it IS a smaller unit. I'll tear it down and thoroughly clean and polish it, as well as oil it in the oil hole. Paperwork says use 30 weight, do you know if...

    Royal 105

Date on paperwork says 2-27-81. Could this vac be that new? looks 50's-70's. Happy 4th everyone!

anyone tested a Filter Queen with a particle counter?

Get one of those vacs for cleaning up mold and asbestos! A vac like that is usually completely sealed, as dust coming back out of it can be a really bad thing! Of course, the vacs are several grand and filters are several hundred! I've seen a safety supply company that sells vacs for asbestos...

    Measuring CFM?

Cool info Blackheart! Now I need to get myself a Baird Meter and see what my Filter Queens do, as well as my older Kirbys

    Measuring CFM?

150" water lift and 100 CFM! and $600+ for a meter is just ridiculous, as the Baird meter was like $50 on Goodvac! I can see how CFM and water lift would be in tandem, just like volts, watts and amps. Also, the design of the fan would add to this too, you could put an industrial 3 phase motor...

    Measuring CFM?

I was wondering what tool or meter would be used for measuring CFM for vacuums? I'm not having much luck finding one. The only one I know of is the Baird meter, and I only found one place that even sells them! (goodvac, I think) Plus, the Baird is just a scale of 1-10, not CFM afaik. And also...

anyone tested a Filter Queen with a particle counter?

Indeed, never thought of the carbon particles.

anyone tested a Filter Queen with a particle counter?

I was wondering if anyone has tested a Filter Queen with a particle counter, and if so, what are the usual readings? I have heard it's nearly HEPA quality with the standard cone filter, and if you add the "medi pure" it is like medical grade. Everyone who sells the nicer HEPA vacs seems to...

    Kirby shampoo attachment help

Floor A Matic, on the older ones, the hose end that connects to the tank's suds screen has a cap you put over the suds screen to stop the flow. As far as how much time it takes, I can't say, as I haven't used many carpet cleaners.

    3M electronics service vacuum

Also a hose with the standard sized ends works just fine.

    3M electronics service vacuum

Yeah, it's definitely a specialized vac, but since I do computer and telecom repair in my spare time, I figured for $10, I can't go wrong. Mine is missing the hose, but has the crevice tool, brush, and the wand for tight places. The filter looks new as well. It wouldn't be a good household vac...

    Kirby shampoo attachment help

I'd have to agree with you guys, Don't get me wrong, Kirby is an awesome machine, but I'm not a big fan of the shampoo attachment. I'll try your techniques next time I use it. Thanks!
