    DirtDevil featherlite

On a more serious note... No Dirt Devil machines have anything resembling quality in them; ALL of their models are cheap and not meant to last over 6 years. If they do in fact last 7+ years it's a damn miracle. Yes, Dirt Devils are the epitome of the throwaway Wal-Mart vacuum. The early Dirt...

    DirtDevil featherlite

Hello Dirt Devil Featherlites are the first thing I think of when "cheap crappy plastic vacuum" comes to mind. They have horrible motors. They are too noisy! I want to see one burn as well!

Deluxe Convertible! In case you were wondering, no, there's no headlight or handle grip. Still very cool nonetheless.

Close-up of the base. The Hoover logo is actually painted on.

    SCORE--one dream machine down!

When I was about 13-14 or so I started posting on Ivacuumcleaners.com as well as the Hooverland and vintagevacuumdustcollectors Yahoo groups. Around that time there was a Hoover "Custom Convertible" or U4007 on eBay. Well, on one of the Yahoo groups, I forget which, I stumbled across the...

    This is interesting...

Just another Rainbow model D (I believe), but with a floor polisher attachment that utilizes the motor like the Fairfax! Needless to say I've never seen one with this attachment on eBay before...

say it isn't so! Dirt Devil Parent Company/Kenmore

Hello I believe most, if not all, of those Kenmore uprights I saw at Sears would look better on a KMart shelf.

Red & Green Christmas - Matching Eurekas

**FAINT** You sure have been busy raking in the gems! The Brandywine model looks just MINT, and I have to admit that both colors make for some FABULOUS matched sets which, honestly, is a hell of a lot better than having the individual machine! Now all you need to find are some 3.5/4-amp...

say it isn't so! Dirt Devil Parent Company/Kenmore

I'm still praying that Hoover products will improve, and if not that, continue to remain the same as the quality is evident in some machines, such as the new Constellation, but it just doesn't seem like it will be going that way. As long as I can remember, I've always thought Dirt Devils were...

What are your favorite vacuums you bought on ebay?

I'd have to say that eBay is a major source for 95% of my machines as well, like Skip said! Especially considering that out here in the Land of Rust, vintage machines in decent shape worth getting are few and far between, from my experiences.

    A long winded Electrolux question:

I'm curious, what about a machine like a Kenmore or Eureka canister, or even some Constellations with the switch in the front? Then would the suction end be considered the front? *scratching head*

    A long winded Electrolux question:

Charles, I agree. Intake-front, exhaust-rear seems pretty self-explanatory to me and was always how I viewed it, even on the Electrolux XXX my mom brought home for $5 at a garage sale when I was 4. It doesn't make any sense the other way around! Sometimes it never sinks in with some. Or it...

    Ok ...which one is it?

The only machines I refer to as "tanks" are the Electrolux, Metro, etc., machines. All of the others I refer to as "canisters", including GE swivel-tops.

    What are our favorite vacuums?

It's really a tough question considering I like so many different machines (and each has their own advantages and disadvantages), but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Eureka 1400-series uprights, some of which are shown here. I have to admit that the metal-base Hoover Convertibles...

    Hoover Celebrity II Estate

Another great find, Derreck, that robin's egg blue is one of my favorite colors. I too have seen some on eBay without the "control center" on the front that had the rocker switch, and also some with the foot-pedal switch as well (which appears more common). I'm keeping close watch on a couple...
