    Broan v20c1

Looks like what was sold in the USA as a CV-30. Single 7.2" three stage motor. Are you still able to get filters? I don't think we are. The wider body dual motor (two 5.7" two stage in series) CV-40 is more common in my area. It was the go-to "supplyhouse" unit until Broan and NuTone merged in...

Do central vacuums work well for killing ants?

I would say go right ahead. They won't survive the trip through the tubing. I've sucked up bees, flies, ladybugs, stink bugs...never a problem. One time I became aware of an active hornet's nest in the attic above the garage at my parents' house. I crawled up there with a headlamp, a can of...

    Canavac XLS semi-acquired

That 8.4" is a great motor. I would definitely use with a disposable bag. Keeps things clean, and avoids the residual airflow loss you get with a permanent cloth filter that's been exposed to years of dirt. An exhaust muffler is in order; without it those motors have quite a shrill exhaust...

    Hoover Model 29

Awesome find!! It's really amazing how this stayed unused, unassembled since new. Maybe someone bought Mom a new Hoover and Mom wanted to save it until her old one wore out...which never happened! It is interesting to see the black cord, as my 29 from Evan Rogers has a black Hoover cord which I...

    $29 Trucut Armature Lathe/Undercutter

That is neat, I can't say I have ever used an armature lathe. Are you planning to make a demo video?

Nearly Unused 29 Year Old Royal

That's awesome! Great find. The last of the good Royals before they became way too loud. My favorite is also the burgundy 9700 ("Master Dealer" limited version of the blue 996). I'm curious what the differences were between your 994 and the 996. Maybe motor amps, warranty, cord length? I also...

    I Need These Gone!

How did you get a CWP brushroll to work in your Concept? I wasn't aware there was a way to do that. The lack of replacement brushrolls/brushstrips has forced many of those machines into retirement.

    Found a 'Bucket List' Item...

That's very cool! My dad has a similar Simpson meter, but his is enclosed in a case with a roll-top cover. So far I have successfully resisted the temptation to acquire my own. But these are a very handsome and well-made instrument.

Help on Wanda Central Vacuum Cleaning System

"Wanda" is a weird one I have only seen this advertisement online, and have never come across a Wanda in person. In fact, yours is the first picture I have seen of one. Perhaps a regional brand that was made, sold, and installed by one firm in a certain area. Without national distribution the...

Replacement parts for a GE Central Vacuum System 1970's

Your GE was built by Beam as a private label (even though the relay was ironically a GE part). It's quite easy to find a relay that is electrically compatible (search Google for "Beam 294 relay" to see the one that they used in the 80s until they went to circuit boards). Finding the exact...

    Magic Suction Cleaner

So cool! Hoping you can make a video of it running sometime.

High profile fan vs. low profile fan.

The blades on the "tall" fan are close to an inch; the shorter are about 5/8" high. My trick for knowing which to use is to check whether the motor's commutator and brushes are close to the bottom (necessitating a thicker lower plate which sticks into the main base leaving less room for the fan...

Pre-plumb for Central Vac pipe during remodel

    ...you mean like this one?

Pre-plumb for Central Vac pipe during remodel

Definitely put the piping in, plan on two inlets to cover 1300 square feet (standard 30 foot hose gives you 600 to 800 square feet of coverage from each inlet). Optional would be a dustpan inlet like the CanSweep or VacPan for kitchen area, and/or a Spot/ WallyFlex for the laundry room. You can...

The Design and Creation of the GE Roll-Easy Vacuum!

This is really cool! I love "inside info" like this. So much more interesting than the consumer advertisements and owner's manuals are to me. Thank you for sharing, Robert!

    Central Vacuum Hose Issue

That is the hose switch. You can try squirting a little spray lube in the switch and rapidly switching back and forth. That has worked for me before. Otherwise just replace the switch and receptacle assembly and you'll be good to go.

    Peculiar Arco wand central vacuum

Early central vac systems are a fascination of mine. Arco Wand was among the most popular brands (thanks to relatively low cost and wide distribution through plumbing and heating contractors) and turn up now and then, in varying states of course. Living in a basement for 100 years doesn't...

Kirby legend II with a stuck fancase screw

Fan shaft Kirby models from the Classic Omega to the Legend II do not have a hole through the armature shaft near the cooling fan (as older models did) or a flat spot on the armature shaft behind the rear bearing for an open end wrench (as Generation Series machines do). So Kirby introduced the...
