Best way to vacuum carpeted stairs

Don't know why.... but, on my hardwood floor steps, I prefer to use my canisters, OR Kirby (because of the longer hose) WITH the DUSING BRUSH. I guess it's a feeling that I have more control. And, I can clean the side molding along the side baseboard at the same time!

Cleanig and yes washing vacuum bags!

I always wash my bags, too-when needed.... I wash my bags also, in the washer on Delicate Cycle with a small amount of detergent. I always RINCE TWICE and NEVER USE fabric softener. You don't want to clog the pores of the fabric. I guess the only exception I might make is if the bag was very...

    Handle/switch repair Panasonic MC6810

I had the same problem with one of my Panasonics. What I discovered was the metal used for the rod that pushes the switch on, oxidizes and creates friction inside the handle. I remember once I got it finally to move, working it on/off, on/off seemed to make it work better-for the moment. But...

Repair and Cleaning of Kirby 515 Corduroy Bag

I would Proceed as you already are. Don't do anything rash. If you are handy with a needle and some thread, you can sew so the tear by weaving loosely using a simple satin stitch. You can even try button hole twist thread or even top stitching thread (which may be one and the same). Brushing...

    Kirby Heritage-Orange Bag

Thanks for the tip I'll give a try and play with it some more!

    Kirby Heritage-Orange Bag

The tie that holds the bag adaptor onto the tube is more like a metal clamp. It doesn't appear to have ever been differently positioned.

    Kirby Heritage-Orange Bag

Hey Guys! I have a Kirby Heritage 84 (orange bag) model with the "Duckcloth" fill tube. The problem is the adaptor where the bag attaches sits to the left. The seams on the fill tube are left to right and appear to sit correctly in the outer bag. It doesn't appear that the fill tube was ever...

    Hoover Convertible Belt Replace

Hoover Belts Hey guys! I do a lot of vac repairs and restoration, also. Back a few years ago I purchased a slew of Hoover Convertible belts. Over the years when I would install one, they were extremely difficult to put on and I thought it was me. Once they were on, within seconds after running...

    Royal Metal Upright Expert Question

Thanks guys! I did everything you guys told me to do and checked everything. What I think it is is that the brush roll MAY NOT be a genuine Royal part and therefore it may cause the belt to function differently. The belt just hangs over the shaft by an 1/8 or maybe a 1/16. It works perfectly...

    Kirby G5 transmission belt

Good to know! Thanks for that info Husky! I am not surprised that Kirby does this. In a way it makes sense and it's great for guys like us who find these machines later--we get a "new" transmission! But what a waste! Where do these transmissions that have minor issues go? And, you're right...

    Royal Metal Upright Expert Question

Hey Ben! My 801 is the near the last of the run so I think it is more on its way to being an 880. Mine looks the same as yours-just that the belt hangs over the spindle instead of sitting a little back from the edge.

    Kirby G5 transmission belt

Careful.... Hey Les! Be careful thinking the belts look alike because to the naked eye they make look alike BUT the spacing between teeth could be millimeters off. In other words, I believe from what I have heard from reliable sources, Kirby has continuously tweaked the gear ratios which thus...

    Royal Metal Upright Expert Question

Yes, Guys! Hey Guys! Thanks for your quick response! Yes, I am aware of the arrow on the rug plate and the direction of the arrow as this also determines that the brushes will sweep from the end to the middle and thrust the dirt up into the impeller. So yes, the brush roll is installed...

    Royal Metal Upright Expert Question

Hey Guys! I have a later model 801 Metal Royal Upright with a 4.5 amp motor. Very gently used and in perfect condition. Question is why does the belt hang about 1/8 to 1/16 over the spindle? I did replace the brush roll with a double row brush roll (square end) and I used belt number...

    Kirby G5 transmission belt

Kirby G5 Belt Most of these transmission belts are the same for the G-series Kirbys. IF and WHEN you need to replace it, JUST make sure you order the belt for the correct model. This way you are sure to get the proper "version" or "revision" as Kirby could have updated the part. The belt is...

    Hoover Preferred

Hey James! I surely will let you know it I find one and yes, John, they are a little loud but not a piercing kinda loud. In other words, it's tolerable while using it. James, does it have to be that EXACT model? Sometimes I find them in other colors as I think this model could have been made...

    Hoover Preferred

IMHO--- This was "Hoover's" last attempt at manufacturing anything that was "somewhat" decent. At best I would say they are a crude machine insomuch as some of the plastic components are cheap. The motors are loud and rough sounding, and the hood cover can be a challenge to remove for a bulb...
