How do Electrolux Automatics work?

I've always wondered about Electrolux's R&D in general. Some of the designs, features, and way the machine is built is just pure genius.

    Favorite tool for restoration?

Whats your favorite tool to help you restore your vacuums? Mine, other than Testors model paint., is a magnetic pick-up, that has a fine tip. Great for getting into places like the one pictured below: (PS you can see those stains I was talking about on the Silverado)

    How do Electrolux Automatics work?

Doug and Christopher, I think this is what you are thinking of. I know this is what Doug is at least. This is on the AP280. Funny how its routed this way, and on my Diplomat LX its piped through the bottom of the bag door on the hinge.

    How do Electrolux Automatics work?

Thanks for the replies. What a neat system, I figured as much it would measure the difference in pressure from the front to the back, but I wasn't sure. Too bad the Diplomat LX won't open up when the bag is full lol.

    How do Electrolux Automatics work?

I am pretty mechanically inclined, but I can't figure out how the automatic part of Lux vacuums work. I see three hoses (at least in the Super J style machines) coming off of the dial (It seems as if there is a switch in there that is activated by bellows that expands?), the three hoses goto the...

    Favorite metal body Electrolux

My Silverado! But I am sure that will change when I find an Olympia One, or Super J. I like the Super J style machines.

    Most powerful vintage vacuum?

My Electrolux Silverado, not sure if its because I have the "Franken-hose" on it or not. But either way, out powers my Diplomat LX and AP280.

Whats your quietest and loudest vacuum?

Quitest is my AP 280. It's a tie between the Diplomat LX and Silverado for my loudest. I love the sound of the Silverado though.

    Central Vac.

I've always been a fan of the older, brown machine VacuFlo systems. You can get a rebuilt older model for a good price. I did when we bought it in our old house.

It's been a Spirited few weeks!

I love the Hoover Spirit, this is one of the childhood machines I want to find. Two I need to find. Excellent machine. Did the BOL versions not have a cord-winder?

    Nathan's Newest Find

Nice find Nathan! I've seen one of these on eBay. Albeit, VERY dirty and it only had the canister and hose. Nothing else. Nice find!

    Alley Allert!! A cliffhanger...?

Excellent find! My Dad used to have the Hoover Spirit version of this, but with a power head. Non straight-suction machine. I want to find one eventually. Great photos!

    Flea Market Finds!

I'm not really an upright fan, but I do like that Hoover Legacy!

    Odd spots and squeaky motor

The Sup J is dirty, but the Diplomat is the one with the motor problem. I took the motor housing off just now, and put my ear up to various parts of the motor, sounds like it might be the brushes on the commutator. Looks like someone has been there before, 4 screws, all of them different...

    Christmas wish-list...

Ahh that Thermax machine reminds me of the one we used to rent from the grocery store in the early 90s. Ha a bit more rounded shape tho. I want one of these, or one of its brothers and sisters from the 80s before the Express. <param name="movie"...

    Odd spots and squeaky motor

What kinda lube would you suggest? Would sewing machine oil seem to do the trick? Id did the trick with the bearings on the brush roll on the AP280 and PN5 I have. Thanks for your help?

    Odd spots and squeaky motor

I was trying to clean up a Super J today, in the area of the power switch, cleaning selector/bag door area there are these spots of dirt or something. I don't know what it is, and I have tried a lot of tricks to get it off like a Magic Eraser, Windex, warm water and soap, an even Fantastik with...

    Vacuum Commercials

There is a BUNCH of older Hoover commercials, even one for a 1977 Junior Deluxe upright, on YouTube. I found a few Eureka ones too, <param name="allowscriptaccess"...

Where do you get your vacuums?

Vac shops DO charge a premium, this is very true. The AP280 I bought, came from a shop. But everything is warrantied, which is kinda nice I suppose. Typical Canadians, loading up on warranties and insurance. Some of the prices I have paid have been pretty steep. I don't see many estate sales...

Where do you get your vacuums?

I forgot to mention Kijiji and Craigslist, I found a Filter Queen 40th anniversary edition on there for $150. Power hose, but no power nozzle.
