    Kirby 509 armature bearings

I seem to have trouble sourcing front bearings for the 500 series Kirby, if anyone knows of a generic replacement as well or model number it would be most helpful

    Kirby Fan Rusted to Armature

The little hole on the belt drive or the part that secures the fan, modern replacements have a through hole, this is the old fan off my 519, anyways you can always put some penetration oil in here as this is open to the top of the shaft, also clock wise is loosen, counter clockwise is tighten

    Kirby 509 armature bearings

even though the front bearing feels fine I will prob just replace it, like I said this machine is 75 years old, and with the commutator in the good condition it is, I cant tell if its been replaced once in its life as the rear bearing is a 87007 NTN Japan bearing, which makes me think its had...

    Kirby 509 armature bearings

I ordered rear and a kirby bearing puller for that, this machine likely wont leave my collection, given my 519's commutator looks like its been well used for its life, which brings a question does running these old AC/DC motors on DC wear out the commutator faster then running them on AC?

    Kirby 509 armature bearings

This machine likely wont see alot of use, with it being 75 years old, the commutator is surprisingly in better condition then my 519's. but if I already have the motor torn down for servicing I might as well ensure this machine has a long life ahead of it even if I don't use it as my main Kirby...

    Kirby 509 armature bearings

So im in the process of the tear down and rebuild of my Kirby 509, the front bearing was almost seized with old grease which I flushed out with some brake cleaner, need to still put some fresh grease in, however when it comes to bearings, should I use like car bearing grease or something lighter...

    Kirby 509 and dirt meter

thanks I see its held on by snap clips, I could likely fabricate a cover given its a pretty simple design, I dont think this meter was ever used given how clear the glass is still, likely was always missing the cap, thanks for the info

    Kirby 509 and dirt meter

This is my newest and literally oldest vacuum in my trio, However the dirt meter seen in the image came with my 519 it never would work with it cause of the fittings and looking online I cant find any information on the 509 meter, so if anyone could show me a complete one for reference, unless...

    Kirby 519 fan replacement

Update: I used a replacement plastic fan for the 516-Legend 2, till I can get around to replacing the metal fan, oddly the 516 plastic fan still gives this machine a roar compared to my H2

    My Kirby 519

So this 519 is one of the oldest working kirby's ive ever owned and or had, it still needs a new fan on the todo list but It is from what I can tell complete, this is also the first time ive seen the Kirby air freshener in its oil can like can

    Kirby 519 fan replacement

I recently acquired a Kirby 519 from a another collector, However the front bearing was dry, as the vacuum was unnaturally loud compared to my Heritage II, so I took it apart as I was polishing and cleaning, checking brushes etc, anyways one of the fins on the metal fan has a massive chunk...
