    take the top off then take off the brush roll cover,,then you can see the mentioned clip...use a flat screwdriver to release clip from top side.

    what's best for bare floors?

    bare floor cleaning I use a spinmop, this is the best mop I have ever used. Hands never have to touch the dirty water, and you control how wet or dry you get the mop by how much you spin it. Think salad spinner design. I clean 3 houses weekly and this is great. Robert http://buyspinmop.com

    plastic cover You have the plastic cover on right. The "pristine" one here is a different wand set up than what u have. In that it is entirely a plastic wand from the power nozzle neck all the way up to the top. It is rare to find one of these because they cracked and were easily broken...
