    Transformed fans!

If I'd have known you are in Ann Arbor when I posted my first reply, I'd have offered to put a new plug on for you! I've replaced many plugs on vacuums and never had a problem with any, one is a commercial machine at my Church- I always use a heavy duty plug, and make sure it's attached...

    Transformed fans!

It won't cost you any $50 to replace the plug, do it yourself. Not hard at all. If you have a local hardware store you might even get them to wire on a new plug for you.

Nearly Dead Kitten Found Frozen In The Snow -- and SAVED

We have a small dog and two cats, ALL were rescued- our Chihuahua, Taco found us, and we found the cats, (Faith and Hope) about a week old in the wood pile behind our house, abandoned by the mother. We had to bottle feed them (4 at the time!) every 4 hours for a couple weeks, then hand fed them...

    Best Freebie haul... Ever!

I'll probably clean up and sell most of them, I may keep the Hoover Air and the Kirby. I think the issue I'd run into with giving the bagless Hoover to my church is the fact that it's a fairly small building, although 90% carpet, and it's never filthy dirty, just whatever gets tracked in from...

"I'll have my steak well done, please."

I like mine around medium well to well done, but I don't have a problem eating it medium or medium rare, I just don't care to see it bleeding on my plate or mooing and walking off! I have never had a problem getting anything cooked the way I like it, but I usually ask for "well done but not...

    Best Freebie haul... Ever!

And the amazing thing is, they're all in really good condition- just dusty, no major scratches or scuffs, no chewed up cords, all run great (Oreck sounds pretty tired though). I agree, the Kirby made it worth the trip even if the rest would have been junk. After it's totally polished, it will...

    Best Freebie haul... Ever!

I've had many of the Bissell blue/black powerforce bagless and I totally clean them inside and out, new belt, and a good polishing and sell them for $25 or $30. They really are decent vacuums when they are maintained properly, and I've only ever had one come back with a bad motor. Most typical...

    Best Freebie haul... Ever!

And the brushrolls of the rest, all in good condition, and the NASTY filter from the Bissell- doesn't look like it's ever been cleaned, but surprisingly still has good suction from the hose (lower hose is clogged end to end though!)

    Best Freebie haul... Ever!

The only one that has any wear on the brush is the Oreck- The others are all nearly new. Looks like they could have vacuumed the parking lot with it! This is a before picture, none had been wiped down or anything, except the Kirby. I polished the Kirby last night and installed a new belt and it...

    Best Freebie haul... Ever!

Last Sunday I replied to a Craigslist ad for "4 free vacuums for parts". The ad said they had been used commercially and were no longer working. The ad had a picture of a Panasonic commercial upright and a Hoover Air. They were located in Portage, about an hour and 20 minutes drive from Jackson...

    Cleaning for Thanksgiving

If you've got enough ash behind the fireplace damper that it won't stay open, it needs more than to be vacuumed! You need to clean the chimney or have it professionally cleaned if You aren't comfortable doing it yourself. All that buildup will cause a chimney fire and that's not a pleasant...

    "Trash Find" Vacuums Thread

My most recent find (now a couple months ago) was a Dyson DC25 Animal. Nearly made a U turn at 55 when I saw it but common sense got the best of me and I turned around in a driveway just up the road. It wasn't even terribly dirty, attachments were present and looked as if they'd barely been...

Advice on cleaning a sticky kitchen floor?

Actually, the last I knew, the Swiffer Wetjet bottles *could* be opened and refilled with some effort. I cleaned for an elderly lady that had one and one time she bought a refill bottle in some scent (not sure which one, but it was incredibly strong, almost gagging) and she complained how bad it...

I hated my grandmother's and my mother's DAM

Not nightmares, but I've got one (Not even sure of the model number, it's all beige, power drive, headlight) that doesn't pick anything up or groom the carpet. It's pretty useless in my opinion, a poor excuse for a vacuum cleaner. The belts are fine and it's not clogged. Has decent suction at...

I Bought Something from Home Shopping Network

Yes the Scentsy cubes are smaller than Yankee tarts, but I've found it's not the size but the level of scent in the wax, and they are loaded! The cubes are about an inch or so, but I only ever use one at a time. Scentsy wax is soy wax, so it melts easier, and you can just wash the warmer out...

I Bought Something from Home Shopping Network

If you find the Yankee tarts work for you, you don't have to use the whole tart at once... I can use 1/2 of one and the scent is good. They break/crumble easily, and I crumble them rather than just dropping in a chunk. Cranberry Chutney, Pink Sands, Midsummer's Night, and Chocolate Layer Cake...

I Bought Something from Home Shopping Network

Scentsy wax cubes are awesome but pricy. Yankee candle tarts may or may not work in your particular warmer because they are a harder wax that is designed to be melted over a tealight candle. I have several warmers and the yankee tarts work in some but not others. The ones from Walmart are pretty...

    Winter tyres

Never had them, don't want them. I live in Michigan and we get plenty of snow and cold weather. If I can't get where I need to go with front wheel drive and all season tires, I don't need to go! Worst I've ever done was gone in the ditch once about 5 years ago. At the time I had a tiny car that...

    Your best road-side find?

Vintage: Kirby Classic III, needed nothing but a good cleaning. Cleaned up and worked great! Modern: Dyson DC25, All attachments, good condition overall, nothing wrong but a nasty clog in the extension wand. Both trash finds.
