Cleaning heads and is a Persian rug a Persian rug a Persian rug

Antiques I saw a programme a few years ago on BBC4, about renovations during the seasonal closedown (basically Winter months) in a stately home which was open to the Public. They used suction-only cleaners (Electrolux) and I think they were the 'strap over the shoulder' / handheld type, with...

    New Dyson Light Ball

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Cylinder On the German site, near bottom of the page, the 'self-righting' mechanism is described as: "Automatisches Aufrichten"... which Google helpfully translates to... "Automatic Erection"...! Oooh, er, Missus...

    New Dyson Light Ball

Motor Regarding the video of that machine, and the last few seconds of the video... I see Dyson still persists in using a conventional suction motor in their uprights. So one must presume that the Dyson Digital Motor is unsuitable for their uprights.

Miele new wattage from 1st Sep 2017

"they don't have that screaming sound..." Exactly. They were generally more refined in noise levels, but they weighed a bit more. You would think that modern aerospace technologies might allow them to design a two-stage motor which is lighter than the older types. I was also under the...

Motor design Do the new lower powered cylinder machines still have a single fan? Or have they reverted back to twin fan design?

    Eureka Electrolux Easter egg

I imagine the tool lid was glued shut, in order to prevent complaints from the consumer, along the lines of: "There's no tools in the storage bay! I want my money back!"

Why Domestic Canister Carpet Shampooers Are Rare

Not necessarily so. Much depends upon the type of nozzle, suction power and how much force is applied to the nozzle to lock it to the carpet. I've had more success removing water from the carpet with the Hoover Aquamaster, than an upright Bissell.

    It came!

Sebo Kombi nozzle If any of you have the Kombi nozzle, and find it sticks to vinyl or thin carpet, take a look at the suction channel ends. There are two GREY inserts - one on each side - which serve to act as blanking pieces, concentrating the suction to the floor. These can be prised out...

Why Domestic Canister Carpet Shampooers Are Rare

Depended on the market Here in the UK, we had for example: Vax 121, Hoover Aquamaster, Electrolux Masterlux, and Goblin's version. They did take a bit of effort to shampoo the carpet, especially when trying to remove most of the moisture you had just laid down into the carpet. Basically, very...

Vacuums That Sold Poorly & Died An Early Death

Electrolux 4x4 Succeeded the 'Dolphin' Series. Had four independent castors (like modern Sebo's), high filtration electrostatic dustbag, and an automatic feature of winding in and out the flex as it was moved about. Available in such colours as 'British Racing Green', and blue. Probably also...

    Miele Adaptor

Perhaps it is to allow older tools to fit? I seem to remember back in the 1990s, Miele had available several different carpet turbo-brush heads. I'm sure one of them was to fit older Mieles; another was suitable to fit other brands of cleaner.

Suction vs Airflow: No high suction needed to clean well

An X type graph No, I don't think the graph was an "X" shape. I can't remember now, but it might have been a loose "U" shape, or an inverted "U". The graph wasn't in the multi- cleaner Hoover 'Collection' brochure. I think it was in one of those 'stand alone' fly-sheet brochures for the...

Suction vs Airflow: No high suction needed to clean well

No. High suction = low airflow, (e.g cylinder cleaners), High airflow = low suction (i.e direct air Hoover uprights). One of the old Hoover Alpina brochures had a graph purporting to show the relationship of airflow to suction.

    Vacuuming Downside Up

"the vertical parts of carpeted steps" Known as the stair riser. Is the Kirby heavy to use as a handheld? Watching the video, it reminded me of the unwieldiness of using the Hoover Senior 612 on the stairs.

    The Whirlwind

Years ago, my Gran told me about a machine that her mother had. It was like a Hoover but non-electric, and used friction drive and gears to drive the suction fan. Anyway, this evening, there was I leafing through the online 1929 Christmas Edition of "Radio Times" and I happened upon this...

Hoover Convertible With Type Q HEPA Bag Installed

Nice idea. I had thought about a similar 'bag doctoring' for my 1334 Hoover Junior. My idea would have involved using the Sebo X4 Ultra filtration upright bags, and cutting off the plastic collar. This would leave it open-ended for the bag support tube.

    New Brushroll?

Perhaps part of the reason for the difference in brush flexibility is the silly EU vacuum regulations? The older European Miele S uprights were more powerful. The current European U uprights have lower power. Maybe the stiffer bristles are there to compensate for lower power? (even though the...
