No more corded vacuums to be developed by Dyson

"designed a very good product..." I think that is a tad short-sighted. Take a look at this - the accessory hose for the most expensive model of V10. Notice the short length, as to make it awkward to use. Thus if you are in a cramped space (the car) and trying to clean under the seats, you've...

    Hoover constellation cleaning?

When the cream-coloured Hoover Sensotronic hose became dirty, I cleaned it with a cream cleaner like 'Jif', also known as 'Cif' now (bloody stupid name!) or 'Vim' in some markets. Be cautious of bleach, it might make the plastics brittle.

No more corded vacuums to be developed by Dyson

Cordless I'm not convinced at all. The V10 run times are spin-doctored (as usual). Real-world use reveals a much lesser run time. Batteries can and do wear out. Dyson should have offered the option of swap-over batteries. Trigger-action switches are no good for arthritic hands. A rocker...

    Question for Miele Upright Owners....

I had a look at Miele USA. They've two products: a standalone box of 4 bags, and a 'service pack' of 16 bags + Hepa filter. I think some of the reviews on the likes of Amazon, are because customers ordered Genuine Miele Brand, but the trader involved sent non-genuine 'pattern spares' instead. I...

    SEBO x7

"the lack of a handle lock..." Agreed. For every step forwards, there's two steps backwards. The 45 degree handle lock is the most user-friendly feature in a decent upright. One-handed operation of negotiating carpet fringes, area rug edges and doorway threshold strips - simply by pushing down...

    new Dyson big ball joke

"Panasonic motor in the Dyson!" The DC15 Ball upright had a Panasonic suction motor too, but without (I think) the pre-inducer fan. Dyson kept on - and keeps banging on - about their Digital Motor. But it never ever seemed to get installed in a proper upright machine. Instead they use...

    new Dyson big ball joke

"Weird suction fan?" Isn't that small black fan just an 'inducer' fan, to get the airflow to flow with a minimum of turbulence before the airflow encounters the conventional aluminium fan? I'm sure Panasonic had something similar on their bagless upright motors of 2011.

Hoovers which take Type A bags

Hoover UK's 'H4' bags are suitable for the 'Turbopower 1', 'Turbomaster' and 'Turbolite' which was the imported USA 'Elite' in disguise. Thus I would think that the USA bags suitable for 'Elite' would also fit the 'Sovereign' and the 'Innovation'.

What's With The Hate On New Vacuums?

There is plastic... and plastic Decent plastic machines have their plastic casings made of a decent grade of ABS. The rubbish end of the market has ABS of such a poor grade, that it is akin to the polystyrene door racks in a refrigerator. This plastic feels quite light, but cannot withstand...

    Miele upright vacuum

Miele upright When our 'Which?' magazine tested the Miele upright in its S7 guise several years ago now, it got good marks for dirt removal, and was the quietest upright on test. Reading online reviews from UK customers, there were several grumbles: - the weight of the machine; - plastic...

    ibaisaic

I watch him too. He gives the machines a decent test with typical real household dust. I recently watched him demonstrating an Electrolux Dolphin cylinder suction cleaner. He had his work cut out sucking up the debris. My personal bugbear is upright vacuum cleaners which have accessory hoses...

    1987 Hoover Compact Electronic S3500

I thought the Compact cylinders were originally made in France, alongside the Sensotronics? Perhaps when they moved to the Vogue, Sprint and Galaxy models, they decided to move the older machines' production to Portugal? The Alpinas were, I believe, made at the Cambuslang factory in Scotland...

Hoover vintage for modern - better or worse?

Hoover Conquest What about the Hoover Conquest? This features the activator - similar to what was fitted to our Hoover Turbopowers and Turbomasters. The carpet pile gets 'reactivated'. The beater bars on this version are the raised nodules on the barrel. Twin rows of bristles too.

Cleaning heads and is a Persian rug a Persian rug a Persian rug

"Turn the rug upside down on a clean smooth surface and vacuum from the back side." I've done that with coconut door mats, using a decent upright (eg Hoover Turbopower 3). The agitation does indeed release the grit which falls to the floor. Then, switch to the accessory hose to suck up the...
