Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind Pet Hose Ripped!

"Stretched out the hose..." That might be the problem. This appears to be a 'plastiflex' hose - and a cheap one at that. It will not have the flexibility of a proper plastiflex hose, nor an expandable, stretchable hose. Likely, the plastic hose has become brittle; the heat of the machine no...

What would Hyacinth Bouquet think of Dysons?

I imagine that Hyacinth might have had a Hoover Turbopower (in Wedgewood Green). Or possibly an Electrolux. Her sister Violet (swimming pool, room for a pony) might have had the larger Hoover Turbomaster. Did we ever get to see Hyacinth's vac?

    Jumped off the fence

Reply #1, pics #2 & #3 Is the metal spindle worn down? I once had a Hoover Junior (flat belt). When new, the belt spindle was the same diameter through its entire length. But after a few years of almost daily usage, the spindle wore away quite dramatically, leaving a thinner diameter where the...

    Singer A-1 & A-2 Brochure Copyright 1929

@phaeton: Referencing your photos #5 & #4 in Reply #2, and photo #3 in your original post, the 'Air Brush' seems to work as follows... The cleaner draws air through the soleplate narrow slot in the middle (photo #5). When brought into contact with the carpet pile, the majority of the air is...

So my day went from great to aweful :(

That's awful. But in saying that, what was the packaging like? Was the hoover in a stout cardboard box, with copious amounts of bubble-wrap? Or was the machine sent through the postal system in a glorified bin bag?

    Hoover Encore Squeaking

Squealing/squeaking Or another possibility... it might be the flat belt riding along the motor spindle, and contacting a plastic or metal surface. UK flat-belt Hoovers had a plastic rib with a metal 'hat', designed to prevent the belt from falling off the end of the motor spindle, by...

Ah! I wondered if Google had possibly split their doodles according to the country/region/market in question.

    Vacuum bag fragrance

"car air freshener 'trees' and similar..." NO! NO! DON'T! I did that once to two separate machines. Both suffered dissolved, melted plastic, where the liquid solvent in the air-freshener 'tree' pad, came into contact with the plastic of the bag compartment. In one case, the paper dust bag...

    Kenmore Progressive Inteliclean Upright

@ JustJunque & Suckolux: I read that sentence the same way, that the mother and the daughter both died! I presume Suckolux means that the mother and the daughter both had their own versions of the same machine, and that both machines got beaten into the ground.

    Dyson V10 Dok

Call me cynical if you wish, but I don't see much difference when comparing that Dyson docking stand to the old conventional hoover tool box, stored in the cupboard under the stairs. At least with a proper 'tools onboard' upright or cylinder machine, the tools really are close at hand - under a...

Cleaning Solution and Defoamer for Vax Wash Wizard Plus

Use Hoover US detergents!!! Use Hoover's solutions. TTI owns American Hoover and British Vax. I'm surprised the idiotic Vax customer care department didn't suggest Hoover US as a suitable detergent! Alternatively use separate solutions provided by Rug Doctor, but be careful to dose correctly...

Lift-Off vacuums marketing &should be replaced with canister vacuums!

Stretchable hose on uprights Some uprights are better designed than other machines. It helps if the hose connects at the bottom (like the Miele, some older Electrolux, and some Panasonic bagless models). Or is capable of being restrained for certain tasks, such as seen on some Hoover cleaners.

    Hoover Conquest

"can't see how one could dust furniture..." The commercial 'Conquest' upright cleaners were designed to clean carpets only, e.g. hotels, shops, etc. They had no provision for above floor cleaning. To clean above floor, you would use a separate suction machine. They clean carpets very well, and...

    Vorwerk Kobold VK135: Massive Airflow

Not the Hoover 'Silent Energy'; it was its immediate predecessor, the 'Free Motion' which had the swivel head.

    Vorwerk Kobold VK135: Massive Airflow

That Vorwerk hard-floor head seems to be quite a sensible design, with its spring-loaded adaptability. I think Hoover-Candy once partly copied that floor head design when they had a nozzle which could slip sideways into narrow gaps for their 'Silent Energy'. It wasn't a great success - I seem...

    My Miele Titan having issues

I wonder if some of the copper segments of the motor's commutator might have become tarnished in storage and become temporarily non-conductive? I was told by a few folk, that car electric windows can suffer a similar fate through lack of use.
