    Hoover 425

425/450 body comparison Check out the sequence; 1: Side by side 425/450 2: The add on pressed steel plate in the 425 to presumably improve airflow to the fan. 3: WAH! what had gotten in behind it over 75 years. 4: The plate detached 5: 425 minus plate I wonder what happened at Hoover...

    Hoover 425

Totally I think there were more than a few issues with the 425. If I get the chance I'll post a pic of the bottom of the 425 minus the plate next to a 450 minus its plate. The 425 has extra bits added presumably to sort out air/dirt flow to the fan. Not a great design by the looks of it.

    Hoover 425

Wow How odd. I assumed those were home made holes due to their random nature. Talk about field modifications. I still think my cover has been altered very slightly, maybe for a little extra clearance round the sides. Note the punched serial number too. Thanks for comparison pic by the way...

    Hoover 425

Thanks2 There is something slightly odd about the belt set up and I wonder if this is a bitzer that's been cobbled together out of different machines to keep it running: The serial number is around 55,000(motor number high 70000 - presumably as these motors were also used in the minor?) The...

    Hoover 425

Thanks Great. It is the flat belt version. It came with an original flat belt which is stretched out(though it will be a while before it's running and needs a new belt!)

    Mystery bag

Pretty good looking guesses... Had a look at your suggested machines, not knowing much about this era. It does look like it came off a Hoover Elite, though maybe an aftermarket replacement as it's unbranded. Thanks for that. Anyone confirm this or indeed need such a thing?

    Mystery bag

Yeah, I looked it up too. Since it doesn't make any sense I wondered if it's just one of those things where a seemingly unrelated word has come to mean something else. Though I cannot find any evidence on the internet that backs my theory up. If someone knows what it is maybe they can shed some...

    Mystery bag

Thanks for your comments gentlemen, I have not thrown it away, and I am unlikely to. Just prodding a little for responses ;). I assume that the "lui" printed on the closer may be Italian for top? so from an Italian machine. I have no use for this as I only do pre war Hoover. If anyone can...

    Mystery bag

I bought a Hoover 800 today, the 1934 version. When I got it home the plastic carrier bag holding the tools also contained this 80's or 90's(?) vacuum bag. The cloth bit is oatmeal coloured and the plastic bits are brown. Its got a disposable paper bag inside it but apart from the word lui on...

    Electrolux with wooden case?

British Electrolux Older Electrolux in the UK always come in wooden boxes. They're mostly from the Thirties I think. We don't seem to have the '50s models you have in America (Can you tell I know nothing about Electrolux? :). There are FOUR currently on offer, in a box on ebay UK right now.

Question about my Hoover model 475

S'easy I bought these brushes from this listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5x-Carbon-brush-charcoal-1-pair-6-x-8-x-24-mm-electric-motor-A8R9-R2H3/332752653607?hash=item4d799a8d27:g:mVMAAOSw-95badEV:rk:1:pf:0 They fit 575's 700's etc. 5 pairs for two of your bucks. The fit is not bad. I am...

Question about my Hoover model 475

Ebay I can't remember what size the 475 brushes are but if you measure them in millimetres and put the dimensions into ebay search you'll find lots of Chinese carbon brushes for very little cash. Obviously Hoover brushes were originally in inches but the metric equivalents are close enough. The...

The Hoover Baby Model 103 Really Old and Original

Wonderful It's amazing that 100 year old machines are still out there in untouched condition. The beauty of living in a huge country. This would have been melted down to make Spitfires in the UK 70 odd years ago...

    Hoover 575 varieties

Thank you It's not quite finished but it's getting there. Yes 575's seem much rarer. I wonder if the delicate satin finish which tends to get dirty and corroded more easily than the high polish meant they were dismissed as past it. All of the 575's I have have been painted with flat silver at...

    1919 Hoover plug?

Patent date Have a look at socketman's post a couple of messages back (though much longer ago in time) He provided a link to the patent document. That plug which came on my Duster was the only original Hoover plug of any age that's come to me with the machine it was originally fitted to.

Hoover Duster Model 200 on ebay

It's very odd. Something very strange seemed to have happened with the Duster/Minor. I don't understand why Hoover produced it at all given how quickly they deleted it from their home market. I wonder if they thought they were onto a winner, struggled to sell them and used the US made bodies...
