    Auction with Vintage Vacuums

A month ago my father sent me a link to an estate auction in my area that had a bunch of vacuums. From the listing it appeared the person that lived there ran a vacuum repair business. The listing mentioned there were about 25 vacuums plus parts used to repair vacuums. It had one picture with a...

    Tristar Question

Daniel, the CXL and DXL are very similar. I have heard that the paint is slightly different but they look very close to the same to me. The DXL introduced a geared belt on the power nozzle. I think that is about the only difference physically other than the supposed different paint. The early...

    How to open a Vita-Vac

I have seen an Airway taken apart and it is really easy. You just need to take off the nuts on the bottom of the motor where the exhaust is. Those nuts hold on the rails that run up the side and the front to hold it upright. The screws that are attached to the nuts are really long and extend...

    MODERN EBAY THREAD AGAIN

Kirbykid, the 508 handle would be gray not black. The handle in that auction is from a model 505. The 508 handle grip looked exactly like the 505 grip only it was gray. The Model 509 had a smoother gray grip. So the 508 grip was a one year only item. Hope this helps. Chad Cunningham

    Kirby Model 1C

Derek, I have a Kirby 1C and I am pretty sure that brushroll will work. It has open ends just like the 505 does. I believe the original brushroll was made of metal, the one in the auction looks like its made out of wood. So if you need a brushroll, that one should work. I am not sure why Kirby...

Kirby Utility Vacuum Cleaner vs. Thomas A Edison Edicraft Utility Cleaner?

The round thing near the nozzle is the place where you would put insecticide so you could fog a room I guess. The front nozzle actually moves up and down. One spot is for use as to vacuum things up. The other spot is for using the insecticide part. If you are interested, there is a patent for...

Trash find G3 - questions about fixing it up

Welcome to the forum! Yes, the Kirby is a two speed machine. It runs in low speed when used as an upright and high speed when used as a canister. I am not sure what the burning smell is, I would have to see it in person. I don't know of any common problem like you describe. And a new handle...

    kirby 561 pic and questions

    1. The original Id tag with the serial number would be in same location as the rebuild tag most likely. The 561 looked pretty much the same as models 516 through 561. So your vacuum may have been a different model. Sometimes the rebuild tag will denote the model it was originally. 2. The small...

    Don Clark Power Head Find!

Yes, and the very top has a piece that's been screwed to the lower wand. It looks to me like they made a converter to use with a particular hose. I did see somewhere that Eureka made these for their commercial vacuums as well and that would make sense. The serial number plate on mine says...

Royal Upright Bags, Fill tubes, ect

Brian, the Royal bag system was basically just like a Eureka F&G style. It had a tube coming up from the bottom of the bag and you hold the bag on with a spring. In fact, you could use F&G bags in a Royal. The belt is harder to change than a Kirby. Royal makes a tool to aid in the belt...

    Don Clark Power Head Find!

I just found a Don Clark Powerhead today at an estate sale for one dollar. I was hoping for a yellow one, but I guess you can't be choosy with something so rare. This was seems a bit different though in that it has a three prong plug on the end. I would have expected a normal two prong power...

what is the best way to polish a kirby?

Sam, You can get out scratches and stains with a bench grinder. I would recommend you read the Buffing Guide at Caswellplating.com before you dive into it. It's a pretty good guide to buffing. They also sell buffing supplies if you need them. Chad Cunningham
