Newest Member to My Kirby Family - 511

Excited about my newest Kirby find - a 511! It was a 2011 Factory Rebuild, but, as is usually the case, was "tan-ified" to their now-standard parts. The cool part was, the internals were in near perfect shape. And the finish was beautiful -- all except for the emptor. It looks like they...

    Kirby 562 Q's

Bag conversion For my 562, and all my pre-Tradition Kirby’s, I have fashioned my own bag conversion that works quite well. It involves a little sheet metal cutting with snips, but it’s pretty easy. And allows for modern Kirby HEPA bags to be used.

New Rainbow Rainjet Not Working - Flashing Red Light

Success! The eBay seller came back and suggested there might be a leak in the supply tank. And sure enough, the rubber seal was wrinkled just a tiny bit. When I let it dry out then put it back together, success!! Happy to get to use my now functioning Rainjet. Taking it up to our summer place...

New Rainbow Rainjet Not Working - Flashing Red Light

Thanks for that 4 flashes.... so that means the electrical connections are wet. I wonder what would cause that? Maybe a fault in the device or the hose itself?

New Rainbow Rainjet Not Working - Flashing Red Light

I broke down and treated myself to a Rainjet for my E2 Black Rainbow and I was so excited to use it! But when I followed the instructions and set it up to use, it would squirt a couple of squirts and then quit and the red light by the hose connection on the Rainbow would flash 4 times. I’ve...

    Vacuum bag fragrance

Odors Away I found this product on Amazon after reading in a thread here that it was similar to Kirby’s old Sweet Aire scent. It has a very pleasant cinnamon-spice smell that is not overpowering. I put a few drops occasionally on my HEPA bag machines and it smells lovely for weeks.

    New Rainbow

Were you able to get your new Rainbow? Up until a few years ago, I had always been a Kirby snob. But after acquiring an E2 Gold Rainbow, I was easily converted. While I still love all of my Kirbys, my Rainbow has become my go to machine for weekly deep cleaning. I recently upgraded to the...

    Kirby 1-CR Bag Conversion

After having mulled it over for quite a while, I decided to take the plunge on designing a conversion for my 1-CR to paper bags. While I know I could get a Tradition emptor and use the insert from a Heritage 1 (which I did for my Tradition), I wanted to see if I could design something without...

Anyone else not have a daily driver?

I don't really have a "daily driver." I use almost all of my machines regularly, though I have my favorites. In between big jobs, for cat litter tracked out of the box, or the just the living room rug, I'll use one of my Pre-G Kirbys. My favorite is my Tradition, which I've converted to Hepa...

Craigslist gold!! Kirby Legend 2 with Small Rug Nozzle

So excited! Awesome Craigslist find today! $60 is more than I wanted to pay, but it had the small nozzle, so it was worth it. It's in great condition! Only a few minor scratches in the aluminum. Bag was in good conditioned; already washed and dried and reinstalled. Wiped down the exterior...

    Thank you, Vacuumland members!!!

I used to be fairly loyal to Kirby but after having read so much information from the forum here and all the knowledge that's shared, I now have a Rainbow that I use and love and I have a Simplicity Snap ordered and on the way for quick clean ups. So thankful for everyone who has helped me enjoy...

The Ult. G annoyed me today

Hose kink I've found that the new "snap" type fill-hoses are prone to kinking! I've replaced a couple on the machines I've restored where they were badly kinked! I didn't think the older Heritage and G-series tubes kinked at all?

    $15 garage sale simplicity

Exactly I know exactly what you mean Hvrvaclvr. Every thrift shop and yard sale around here only has $50 crap plastivacs... Never a decent find it seems. But to the original poster, great find. Enjoy for those of us who can't lol

What do you like/love when vacuuming?

I love my vintage Kirby's and seeing their big puffy bags. I love seeing the satisfying carpet lines as you vacuum yourself out of a room. With my new-to-me Rainbow, I love seeing all the crud I just got out of my house, watching it pour into the toilet and flushing it away!

Cleaning an apartment before moving out

It is fun Cleaning an empty house/apartment is fun! With no obstructions, it's easy and so fun to leave behind beautiful carpet lines! I could never be a landlord though. I think I would require in the lease agreement a monthly inspection and if the place was filthy, take the cost of hiring a...

    Alternative to Rainbow chemicals

Oils I've been using Lavender essential oil for a week or so in my Rainbow on low speed 24-hrs per day. I vacuumed/dusted the whole place last night and when I cleaned out the water bin, it had an oily residue, which I'm assuming was from the lavender I'd been adding? I did try the fabric...

LOOOONNNG Hose Based on Tom's suggestion (thank you, Tom), I ordered the 15 foot hose and got it this weekend. Wow, what a difference. In my small apartment, I can park the Rainbow and clean all around...I only had to move the motor 3 times to clean the whole place! I also ordered a Rainbow...

    Spring Cleaning 2015.

The aresenal I did my spring cleaning a few weeks ago; primarily with my Kirby Sentria 2 in upright mode and my G4 in canister mode. I use comet for the john and tub, orange Awesome for the bathroom sink and kitchen. I used my Hoover Floormate and Floormate solution for the floors. Of...

    Alternative to Rainbow chemicals

No foam soap Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I will try both the Spic and Span and Fabuloso! I have used both in the past so I like the smell of both. I used Tide HE tonight just to give it a try. I used too much I think. I think only a drop or two would do in 1/2 gallon of water. The...
