That is quite an interesting canister! I have a very similar one laying around, although mine is missing the attachment door and most of the attachments. I can imagine that the attachment doors going missing was a somewhat common occurence due to the lack of hinges.

I mean, that is quite the generalization. There are uprights that perform poorly on carpet and canisters that perform excellently on carpet. Like with anything, you just have to buy the right ones. Heck, even the $200 Kenmore canister from Walmart cleans carpet as well as any upright.
