Dirt coating the internals Have you cleaned all of the prefilters regularly? If so, that is really odd that it is that loud all of a sudden.

Thank you for all of the great responses! No, my grandpa is not going to replace the vacuum. If the motor dies, then we will just purchase a new motor. I can do the repair very easily, as I have worked on many, many vacuums. I am assuming that the Ametek Motor is comparable to the genuine Oreck...

I also forgot to add that even with the belt and brushroll in at all, it buzzes and produces the odd odor,not just when it is used on carpet. This is a new issue to me, as I have never seen it before on an oreck.

I have checked the belt and replaced it. The brushroll spins quite freely, with very little binding or resistance. The bearings are dry on the motor, though. Could adding a drop of oil to them possible help aleiviate the issue?

@blknblu, I have already removed the belt and the whole bottom plate of the vacuum. There are no strange noises coming from the motor when turned manually. I do know that the bearings are kind of dry, but I don't know how that could cause a problem with speed fluctuations and an odd odor.

Paid a visit to Oreck of Orem.. And tried out the new Elevate Uprights! They all seem really nice, and are fresh and modern looking. They Conquer seems to clean just like my XL21, since it is really the XL21 style internals with a new hood and bag. The new LED lights are really slick looking...

Oreck Elevate Collection I may be going to an Oreck Store this weekend if I can get a chance, I hope to try the new Elevate Uprights! If I get a chance I will report back on here and let everyone know what I think of them :)

Has anybody on Vacuumland ordered one of the Elevates? Has anybody on here ordered one of the new Elevate Uprights? I think that the Conquer looks really nice. They look to be very refined XL21's.
