IF Your Daily Driver Could Do Something Extra, What Would It Be?

With regard to the X series auto height adjustment, I experienced this exact same problem too. It was the one and only fault I could find with this cleaner, but was bad enough that I eventually threw in the towel and sold it on. We have a good quality short pile berber throughout the entire...

Even more carboot sale finds! Electrolux masterlux and more !

The Masterlux was, IMHO, one of the better 3 in 1 cleaners of its time. The pump operates on a pressostat, so you only need to push down and hold the blue button until the pump is primed, after which it turns on and off automatically as you operate the trigger on the handle. I also like the...

    Disappointed with latest VAX machines

Oh well, it's up to you. From your first post I thought you were looking for a way to get the problem resolved, one way or another, but maybe I misunderstood. The info in the link I posted above tells you all you need to know, and requires minimal action on your part. All I know is I wouldn't...

MAH, any luck in pursuing a repair or replacement yet?

Glade Shake n Vac / Carpet Freshener Powder - Your Opinions?

Never liked it myself. Some of them smell OK in the container, but get way too overpowering once sprinkled over the carpet. And even with a clean dust bag, once it's been sat in the cleaner for a few days, the scent seems to alter and becomes rather unpleasant to my nose. Having only tried it...

    3D face Henry's

The 3D face looks OK to me. Not much of an actual benefit to the consumer, but it doesn't diminish usability either. I reckon Benny hit it on the nail though, in that it was probably an exercise in simplifying manufacture. As it stands they currently supply some tubs printed, others plain...

    Disappointed with latest VAX machines

Sorry, that was directed to MAH. Agree that Vax are normally very helpful, and I know of many instances where they have simply agreed to swap a machine rather than go down the repair route. They never used to be like that, but their customer service has improved vastly in recent years.

    Disappointed with latest VAX machines

I'd agree that the drop in retail price doesn't necessarily mean there are issues, or that retailers are desperately trying to get rid of them. To be honest, when a new cleaner comes out, it is usually priced at the maximum amount they think the market will bear, and after a while it soon comes...

    Disappointed with latest VAX machines

Although it can be a pain trying to get through on the helpline number, I think it's worth persevering in this case. The cleaner does come with a six year warranty, and to give up on trying effectively relieves Vax of their obligations to you. What's the point in choosing a cleaner with a long...

    Australian Hoover, Model 8001S2AUS

They were indeed originally called the Hoover Compact in the UK, although the range was later tarted up (in an effort to wring a little more life out of it) and renamed Sprint. This involved little more than a higher wattage motor and new colours, but other than that they were effectively the...

    ZEPTER water vacuum cleaning system

Vax's water filter vac was called the WaterJet, and I think the model number was V-100 or something similar. It was fitted with a clear drum, and the motor unit looked very much like that of the old Philips 3-in-1 cleaners. It worked by bubbling the dirty water through a perforated screen in the...

    Hoover Elite bag lettering

For the Hoover logo, try Helvetica Black. Of all the common fonts this seems to be the closest match to the original. http://www.glassamerica.com/StockFontDetail.cfm?StockFontID=5055&CategoryID=211&SearchKeyword=

    what's your daily driver

My current daily driver is a Sebo D2 Total. Have only had it a couple or three weeks so far and am really pleased with it, especially since we just adopted a cat who sheds like crazy over anything he comes into contact with. It copes well with the puddy hair, has a huge bag and is quiet enough...

    Vorwerk Vk-120

Love these vacs, I too think this particular series was Vorwerk's best. Considering they only have a 250 watt motor, the suction was far better than I expected and they do a pretty good job. They're also really easy to convert between the power nozzle, floor head and hose attachments, because...

    ZEPTER water vacuum cleaning system

These were sold in the UK around the late 90s onwards. Ours were marketed by Polti (an Italian company famous for their steam appliances) and were coloured turquoise, but other than that they were almost identical. We had them in our store priced at £159, and with a Polti demonstrator on site...

MINT Kirby Classic III on EBay UK

Chris, that is absolutely amazing. I was astonished at the amount of care and attention that has gone into this, and am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. Have to admit I was sorely tempted to go for it myself, but sadly it wouldn't be practical right now as I live in...

Are We Ever Going To Get Any Decent Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaners In The UK?

Those Vax commercial uprights are a great Oreck alternative. Similar design and handling, pretty much the same weight, yet can be had for as little as a tenth of the price... what's not to like? Even if it only lasts a few years it's still cracking value whichever way you look at it. And judging...

    The best above floor cleaner?

In the past I've owned two Filter Queens (the green Limited Edition ones) and it's true what has been said, the attachments are of very good quality. Do think carefully though about a few other points before taking the plunge however. First of all, attachment storage. The "crown" on top of the...

My new to me Hoover turbopower junior

Yes, I always preferred the Junior over the hardbox models too. A lot less body weight being supported by the trunnion, which IMHO made it feel slightly more durable in the longer term. Plus it was lighter to use (obviously), better balanced and had at least some filtration after the paper bag...
