    Rarest convertible in the land....

I don't buy it - the bag was clearly spray painted gold; you can see pink spots on the bag... and the letters were not very well painted on the bag. Clearly a home-made bag. $600 is way too much to pay for that - congratulations to whomever sold it, and to the buyer, who I'm sure is excited...

Air Way Sanitizer Mark 2 88

The earlier iteration of the model 88 was two-tone turquoise; lighter on top and darker on the bottom. The later iteration which was produced for quite a few years was the white and turquoise, as you have. I wouldn't be surprised if they just kept using the same owner's manual, as nothing but...

Why no High/Low switch on new Kirby's

What I heard about it - while an excellent option as you state - Kirby had apparently received complaints from customers that their machines weren't "working properly". I believe they determined that customers had them set on low-speed, either without realizing it, or were not adept enough to...

    Hoover Constellation

I don't think that would have ever come in pink from the factory. If you look at the pictures, especially the one where you can see the bag door latch, it looks like it's still partly white. I imagine someone had it custom painted, which wouldn't be too hard to do. Although whomever did paint...

NIB Kirby Heritage rescued from the thrift store!

Do I own a Kirby? :-) I own a D80 that I had factory rebuilt, which is my favorite Kirby. I've also got a Legend 2 that's pretty nice and I think one of the prettiest they ever made. I have a Dual 50 somewhere in a box, needing restoration; a G3 that I picked up for $40 at a sale a year or...

NIB Kirby Heritage rescued from the thrift store!

And finally, the "power plant", bag, and handle unassembled. I haven't decided if I'm going to even assemble it, leave it in the box, use it... so many decisions!

Here's the box once I got it home:

NIB Kirby Heritage rescued from the thrift store!

I tend to visit the thrift store that's not too far from where I live at least 2-3 times a week. This time I wasn't expecting to find anything - per the usual. I saw a Kirby Tradition box on the floor, and thought "oh, it's probably attachments; people always keep the attachments in the big...

    Help Identifying hose

That's for a Hoover tank cleaner, would fit a model 41, 42, or 55; which were out prior to the Constellation. Because it's a blueish grey hose end, I would say the model 55 to be exact. The cuff looks much shorter though, than the one in the picture below, perhaps it was cut shorter? Fred

Best practice for washing cloth bag?

I do love that machine. I've got a soft spot for it - when I was 10 years old, my mom and grandparents took me to visit the Hoover Company in North Canton. They arranged lunch in the employee cafeteria, and a tour of two assembly lines, this being one of them. I vividly recall walking up and...

    Windtunnel question....

Hi Rick, Yes, as I recall the "Farrington" model was exclusive to Home Depot. I did also see some at an appliance store in Milwaukee, sometime in 2004 - however they could have obtained them as "closeout" or through some special deal from Hoover. I don't think I've ever seen one in that...

Best practice for washing cloth bag?

You can probably leave it all attached, but I've always removed them. I like to leave 'no stone unturned' when servicing a machine.

Best practice for washing cloth bag?

Hand washing in a mild detergent is completely fine. I've done the same with my PowerMax. Just let it hang to dry!

    Todays Vac of the day

John, what on earth are you talking about? What did Ann Haines "correct" which was then "ignored"?

    Todays Vac of the day

The Power Drive DAM didn't debut until 1969, if I recall correctly; and the 858 Constellation may not have been introduced yet. I don't recall if the 858 replaced the 843, or if they were sold consecutively.

    Todays Vac of the day

I'm pretty sure it's 1967 or 1968 - that's the model 3600 Floor A Matic, which was the first; also the 1120 Dial A Matic (orange and brown) is pictured, and was, I have heard, the 'unofficial' 60th Anniversary machine for the company (which would have been 1968). The model 1060 also has the...

Westinghouse Converto-Vac Manual spotted on eBay

Looks like the seller revised the photos on the auction - I hope someone was successful in getting that manual.
