New EU vacuums and half the suction

The "problem" with the EU regulations on vacuum cleaners in the UK is that many people here do not like being in Europe and will fight any changes to the death, irrespective of whether or not it's a good idea. In the case of vacuum cleaners, I think a reduction in power consumption can only be...

New EU vacuums and half the suction

The noise of a cleaner all comes down to what the manufacturer wants to do. Historically, the cheapest cleaners in production were amongst the noisiest. Yes, there were some very quiet cheap vacuums and likewise some very noisy expensive cleaners, but broadly speaking the overall quality and...

New EU vacuums and half the suction

Those old Volta cleaners (we had them as Electrolux here) were very well designed with good internal mouldings to keep the dust bag well away from the filter at the back. This allowed air to flow all around the bag. These cleaners in the UK were very powerful but then they cost a lot of money to...

    Turbo500, that's exactly what I asked in message #4

New EU vacuums and half the suction

In order to establish the cleaning performance, it is important to know how many air watts are needed to clean surfaces. This information I have never been able to find. Nowhere can I read that more suction means better cleaning - there has to be an optimum level to work to.

    BAGLESS CANISTER VAC FROM MIELE

I think we can all conclude that no matter what Meile believe in, they've had to diversify to stay in the game.

    Researching Vacuums

We have a newer version of this cleaner in the UK. They are very heavy to lift, but super light to move and clean like no other upright I know of in all my years. http://www.janitorialdirect.co.uk/truvox-single-motor-upright-vacuum-vsmu.html

    Kirby's in the UK

At the end of the day the only thing the EU are going to not permit is high power consumption, and the Kirby is fine on that front. As for any poor efficiency ratings, if a £2000+ price tag isn't enough to put off a potential buyer, I doubt that any potential poor ratings would either.

    Relationships with local vac shops...

Thanks for answering me and for taking my comment in the spirit of how it was asked. I was worried about it! I think what my own thoughts are, are that if someone is unwelcoming for whatever reason, right or wrong, leaving them to their own devices is always an option. Let them be miserable if...

Matt, what do you hope to gain from attempting them to make them more welcoming?

    Numatic Jack

Nuplug Yes that's the removable cable. It makes it easy to replace the cable, which in a commercial environment is handy as the cable is something which fails often. Numatic have been supplying some commercial cleaners with this type of cable for over 10 years, although they have introduced to...

My Vax / TTI nightmare and now ruined carpet

Walter, the cleaner you talk of was the ill-fated 8000 series. Not only did it fail to catch on in any great number, the first cleaners were filled with design faults and had to be recalled many times on many points. The 8000 went on to become the New Wave - same cleaner but with the height...

My Vax / TTI nightmare and now ruined carpet

"I suppose if the machine was at fault they have a level of responsibility to rectify the damage caused" This is where it's very confusing in UK law, because a manufacturer has absolutely no contract with a consumer what so ever, unless the manufacturer has sold direct to the public, in which...

    Hoover PurePower, what happened???

Wiseman How very kind of you to bestow on me this title. Indeed you are quite correct Alex that no ID is needed to know my age, though I will admit I did think you were younger than 21.

Video: Numatic Henry Assembly Right Here In The UK All Hand Assembled Too

Believe me, that £9million could be way higher if Numatic wanted to go abroad. I repeat what I said earlier - that they don't want to. All credit to Numatic for what they are doing.

"People keep saying "products are made in China because of cheap labour, which means the price is cheap" but it's absolute rubbish and a complete con" That is true though, this does make things cheaper. Numatic as a company have simply decided to make far less profit. They'd make heaps more if...

    Its Christmas!!!! Goblin 702 gift.

Very well done on the restoration. I must tell you that these cleaners were available in the UK until the late 1970's. Interestingly, they were at the top-end of the price scale, indeed in one Which? report it was the most expensive cleaner on test, even more that the Electrolux 100 which was...

Numatic is proof that it CAN be done. I happen to know that the the factory workers are very well paid - you probably wouldn't even be able to guess what the hourly rate was based on the fact that producing cleaners here on minimum wage costs so much more than it would abroad.

    Hoover PurePower, what happened???

I know of an X4 Animal where the dustbox has distorted through use. When the cleaner is being pulled back, the box comes away from the two ducts onto which it sits. This results in a loud hissing noise. Sometimes the power even goes off as the plug & socket detaches.
