Can anyone identify this Vintage Hoover??

The rating plate may well be missing as this looks very much like a cleaner which has been refurbished. If original the whole cleaner would be two shades of green, with the only white part being the flex. It is hard to say from your photo if the hood of the cleaner has been painted - it looks a...

    Here Come the 2016 Dysons!

Two points: how about a cleaner that didn't fall over to start with? Second, why empty the cleaner indoors?

I found Miele S256i Black Diamond today

It's the wattage that has been limited, not the voltage. But it is only the manufacturing of high wattage machines that has been banned. It is still perfectly acceptable to sell those which were made before the ruling, and likewise they can still be used in homes.

    1985 Hoover Turbopower U2332

You can see it's a very early model as the motor was changed from that design - this one has external wires to the brush holder.

What do you think of the new numatics?

"The one thing I'd like to see on a Numatic & really does need fixing, is dedicated tool storage rather than a cheap plastic clip/hook -that really does need upgrading." This is interesting, because whilst the absence of a storage facility may be what some consumers like, it's clearly not...

    Vax 121 Help!

As I said, the "blowing up" of suppressors is not a daily occurrence. You hear more of it on here than in the street as it is a forum for people who collect appliances where this can happen. What no one ever makes reference to is the safety and standard of the removal off the suppressor - only...

The Electrolux 502 cleaner - cleans better, faster

The 502 original kit did have a dark brown grip to match the bumper strip but no suction control, and a white dusting tool. Then came the plain white. The problem in the UK with these tool kits is that many times they were sold separately to the cleaner and one might end up with a tool kit that...

    Vax 121 Help!

The solution switch has broken in half. It should be one piece. Also, I really do not understand this obsession amongst some of the people on here of removing the suppressors from vacuum cleaners. The suppressor is essentially a capacitor and these are in so many appliances that unless you...

The Electrolux 502 cleaner - cleans better, faster

Turbo500, in your very first message you wrote "There was a smaller, clean air Electrolux sold alongside it as a budget upright".

The Electrolux 502 cleaner - cleans better, faster

Indeed it was the 170 or it was clean-air as you said originally? Katie Holland was a popular woman at the time as she had been the face of the Oxo TV advertising for sometime - not that I saw much of it as I didn't get a TV set until about 1979. The Electrolux adverts followed on from Oxo. I'm...

The Electrolux 502 cleaner - cleans better, faster

The smaller cleaner was the Electrolux 170 (formerly 152 and then 160) but it was not a clean-air machine.

What do you think of the new numatics?

The James is geared more for the bulk-buyer. A cleaning business for example. If there was £10 between a James and a Henry, that's one extra cleaner for every 9 they buy, or so. If it's going to be used in an environment where it's going to get lost, stolen, or trashed, that's a big saving...

Just bought an Oreck... Information wanted!

The on-off switch is in the handle and not a foot switch on the base. That itself dates it to the late 1990's.

What do you think of the new numatics?

The reason for the "clunky" feel is that the tool is double-jointed. This means that when the user pulls the tube back, the very first thing which happens is that the the middle section is pulled up, and only then will the tool move across the floor. It is one of the strangest sensations I have...

What is you favourite type of vacuum?

There are many things from the past where I much prefered the look, styling, and build quality, but the performance of which is insignificant when compared to the appliances we have today. I particularly like Electrolux cylinder cleaners from the 60's to the 80's but the earliest models do lack...

What do you think of the new numatics?

The floor tool certainly has that domestic look and feel about it, unlike the previous tools which although are very much like the sort most domestic vacuum cleaners had for years, are without too much styling and retain an utilitarian feel about them.

    1982 Hitachi cv2000 find

How ever you managed to get the screws out of the body of that thing I don't know. They were buried so deep. Well done.

    HOW old are these

Ah well that makes sense! All's well that ends well.

    HOW old are these

Turbo500, I know that the same bag fitted all the cleaners but the only reference I made to it was not knowing how old it was. I genuinely appreciate what you have told me but I am confused to which aspect of what I wrote it applies to.
