    New Miele

Is there a way to tighten the two swivel joints on Miele’s Universal dusting brush? Mine seems to have loosened up a lot and it does not want to maintain the position in which I set it. Any ideas?

Vintage Westinghouse Upright on “I Love Lucy”

This is the first time I have ever seen this episode! I very well remember the episode of I Love Lucy in which she is sold a Westinghouse tank cleaner by a door-to-door salesman. I also know that the show had some sponsorship contract with Westinghouse in the early 1950’s. But I never saw...

    GE Model CS 12 B

I am pretty sure we had a similar green one when I was a young toddler growing up in Montreal. More pictures would be helpful. I think 1965 is too late - more likely 1959.

    Personal Experiences with Vacuum Lifespans

Our vacuums were never really abused when I was growing up…our Eureka 260 Super Automatic Upright lasted 15 years (1959-1974), and our Eureka Cordaway Rugulator 2083 Upright lasted another 15 years (1974-1989). My most recent acquisitions are heading into their 11th year: Hoover Platinum...

    New lightweight upright vacuum needed

I’d recommend the Kenmore Intuition Lift Away bagged upright. It’s got pretty good test results by Consumer Reports and is very lightweight - I think only 14 pounds. You can also shut off the brush roll for bare floor cleaning.

    SEBO Balance A1

They should have made a bagged version like the Numatic Quick.

My Return After A Long Hiatus & Why Bagged Straight-Suction Canisters Are Awesome

Yes…the deluxe Guard L1 (large) looks interesting - possibly Miele’s answer to the Sebo Airbelt as it diffuses the exhaust in the side bumpers as well. But I would bet that the well-known powerful Miele airflow is not that good on this new LI: the path of the air is very complicated and not...

My Return After A Long Hiatus & Why Bagged Straight-Suction Canisters Are Awesome

I can’t wait to see how Miele’s new Guard canister line performs when they finally make it to North Anerican stores. I am especially curious about the S1 compact canister with the improved dust bag dock under the hood. Rumour has it that Sebo will also be releasing a new line up in 2025 -...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

The central role that Sears Kenmore played in the history of American vacuum cleaners is really quite amazing when you think of it. Along with Electrolux and Hoover and Eureka, Kenmore really contributed a wealth of ideas and features that made vacuum cleaning so much easier over the decades...

    Miele Guard series

Yes…it looks like you will only get a full set of normal Miele attachments with the compact Guard S1….with the tools stored outside at the base of the hose. Which may make that model the preferred choice among the three.

    Westinghouse Canister Vacuum Cleaner

Great pictures! Great story! YouTube is flooded now with I Love Lucy episodes, and you can see that the refrigerator in the kitchen has the Westinghouse name on it. And we all know the famous vacuum episode where she buys a Westinghouse cylinder cleaner from a door-to-door salesman!

    Eureka Princess Manual

That’s fascinating….thanks Paul! I remember seeing ads for toy Eureka uprights being offered as a promotion, but never little girls’ dolls. I wonder why there was never a Eureka Prince doll….😁 After all, Barbie had her “Ken”………

    Miele Guard series

Thanks! Hopefully early in the year….can’t wait to see the line-up we end up getting…especially the M1 models.

    Westinghouse Canister Vacuum Cleaner

I’ll never forget that confident Westinghouse slogan from the 1960’s: “You can be sure if it’s Westinghouse.” Those were the days when brandnames symbolized a real company with a real North American factory location and work force that you could see with your own eyes. Globalization and...

    Miele Guard series

Does anyone know when this new set of Miele canisters will be available in North America? I imagine the company will also add power nozzle models to the line-up for us here on this side of the Atlantic.

Hoover's new cordless upright commercial vacuum

Cool! But I think Hoover needs to get rid of the word “brushless” when they advertise this new cleaner. It’s confusing. Does the brush roll have bristles or not? If it’s the motor that’s brushless, they can bury that feature deep in the technical specs. Also…they don’t tell you if it uses...

    New Miele

I think some people might prefer the Miele C3 over the Sebo D4 because it is less bulky, has a headlight on the deluxe power nozzle, and has slightly better airflow at the hose end.

    New Miele

Congratulations! The C3 is an excellent canister cleaner. Just remember that whenever you open the bag chamber, reseat the bag collar into the dock before closing the lid….the collar can easily slide out of alignment whenever you open the lid which can cause major dirt leakage into the bag...

    Synthetic bags

    okay….good luck!

    Synthetic bags

No…but I figured you just need enough synthetic bag filtration material to be able to cut it to fit the full circumference of the Swivel Top’s tub. So I was just recommending the largest hepa bags that might give you enough material to create a large enough bag.
