Never saw a DS80 like this before.

This is for no reason other than why not, don't they look good together??

Never saw a DS80 like this before.

Now finally, one of the Crown Jewels of my personal Kirby collection, this beautiful D80, factory rebuilt in its original colors, got this in I think 06 from Owen. not sure this needs much explanation.

Never saw a DS80 like this before.

Next is one changed color by Kirby, technically this could have been done at a Kirby dealer too, as back then Kirby made those rebuilt tags available to the dealers if they wanted to do the refurbishing in house, still factory sanctioned. This one I've had for probably 30 years (meaning I was...

Never saw a DS80 like this before.

First up is the bojack Kirby, not sure on the model. The only genuine trim part on this is the bag I believe (might not even be) and there's no tag left on it. Also that entire belt lifter is a bojack replacement, it is chromed plastic!!

Never saw a DS80 like this before.

The D80 in this thread was a bojack job, none of the aftermarket stickers for the handles or belt lifters said Kirby, the genuine ones did. I have examples of all of this and should take pics.

Never saw a DS80 like this before.

So this D80 was done at a vac shop with aftermarket, non genuine trim parts. You could buy it all back in the day in any color you like, and even came in whole kits. The concept of rebuilding older machines in current trim colors actually came from Kirby themselves, back in the day, when you...

    Hoover Conquest

As long as you have a decent printer, the parts will be plenty strong. Balancing them could be interesting though, have you tried one out in a machine yet??

    Hoover Conquest

They're mechanically related to the UK Turbopower machines, just sized up. If you've ever seen inside one of them, or an Innovation that was sold here, you'll know what I mean.

    RIP old Vacuumland.

Meh, I don't miss it. I mean I miss the idea of it, but feh on the whole ordeal. My attempts at running a forum, as well as my attempt at trying to host any form of a mini-gathering, proved all that to be a deeply thankless task. Takes a special kind of person to be able to organize all that and...

    RIP old Vacuumland.

vacworld.org It doesn't exist anymore, and I doubt there's much of anything on the archive from it.

    Old Rexair on "American Restoration"

There's a bit of a story to how he acquired this too. It belonged to one collector, and another had possession of it trying to restore it or something. This 'Rainbow dealer' played a game and convinced the guy who had it that he had talked to the owner and said it was OK to send it to him. I've...

A Silver King By Any Other Name

Depends on what type of glycol. There's harmless food grade glycol, and then there's also trievethylene glycol. Interestingly Rainbow Deoderizer/Air Freshener is triethylene glycol based. Triethylene is what's in antifreeze.

The Worst "Faked" Kirby I've Ever Seen

I've got one or two examples of this from the 500 series in my collection, I keep them like that because they represent what was once a significant vac shop thing. Rebuilt Kirbys used to sell like crazy, people used to want them badly.

    RIP old Vacuumland.

At one time in the distant past, I made a really fancy website with a forum and all sort of nonsense. I set up a very nice Bulletin thing (which is why I'm fairly certain. that's what this is) and it was fun, until everyone on it jumped ship to use Facebook groups. Oh well, but its been a...

The Worst "Faked" Kirby I've Ever Seen

I swear I saw this thing at a thrift store, if not, it was one identical. Used to see this stuff constantly. Vac shop rebuild Kirbys were everywhere out here, and not all of them were done all that well.

The most frustrating vacuum video on Youtube.

All you have to do is compare a central vac at the end of a hose to most portables, especially any of those battery powered toys, it would tell you everything you needed to know. Say all you want about airflow being reduced by the pipe run, but even after all that pipe and a full 60 feet of...

    Motors

They are different part numbers and they looks a bit different. The typical thing to do in the repair business would be to take them both apart and just compare the motor, make sure it will fit and that the same electrical connections exist.

Would a Wessel Werk turbine tool be a good investment for car cleaning?

I would say go for it, they're well made. I like either the Wessel Werk or the RugRat. The rugRat is louder and more aggressive, and the Wessel is quieter and not as aggressive on whatever you're running it on, and typically run better on things with less power than a central vac. If you want a...

    Central vacuum

It's a model E, serial 188. I know I talked to you about this one a couple years ago. Found on Facebook marketplace out of Colorado Springs. Was quite a treat, as I was assuming I'd have to go through all kinds of nonsense to find one and get it out of California somewhere, as an early MD was...
