So what happens if Sears goes under

Sears is still open? Who cares? Won't miss them or JCP when they close, haven't shopped in either in years, maybe decades. If you want a decent parking spot at the local mall, drive to Pennys or Sears... nobody is ever in either one and always plenty of parking. The only downside is you then...

Aerus (& Electrolux Corp.) Floor Beautifier Tank Catch

people yank the tank out rather than releasing the catch and removing... this breaks the lip of the catch. You do have to buy a whole new tank, the catch is not available as a separate part. They are relatively inexpensive.

    POD

It is a very profound statement of a once great American company. It's such a shame that they were not more innovative in later years, but it's the story of so many companies - profit before product and resting on the laurels of yesteryear. We will continue to see fewer and fewer American...

Anyone ever buy a vacuum from uci Supply?

yep, depending on volume... the more you ship, the cheaper it gets and you don't even have to negotiate that hard... and eBay sellers get fantastic shipping discounts on shipping if they sign up through eBay.

Anyone ever buy a vacuum from uci Supply?

I just shipped 35 lbs of Electrolux Olymipa, PN, hose, all accessories and bags to Maine via UPS for $32. I find uciSupply to be rather expensive for used vacuums, but it does seem that they are getting more expensive in general. The Internet is wonderful for somethings but it is not so great...

when and why did DVC go out of business?

Made in China is not necessarily a bad thing. The Chinese can and will manufacture to any quality specification, including the very best of the best.... if you're willing to pay for it, just like anything else. It's all very well and good to talk "made in the USA", but nobody will buy it because...

have any of you guys planned what you will do with your collections if your no longer living??

I've left instructions that they should be offered to the then current members of this site or it's successor unless one of my nieces has developed an interest - or their future spouses/partners.

Looking forward to the report of their progress through the Southwest Refurbishment facility.

Any Others Getting the call form Aerus/Lux

Customer mailings are inefficient and return nearly 0 calls. This has been true since the day of the pony express. I agree that transparency should be the norm not the exception, and I know of a few good franchisee's who only inquire if a customer would like a demo during a service check rather...

Look at this ad for a Riccar canister

As has been said so many times, only the top of the line, full sized canisters are assembled in the US. Nobody, especially not Tom Gasko, has ever claimed otherwise, nor has there been a claim that they don't contain Chinese or other Asian made parts. Kirbylux77, you seem to delight is stirring...

    Dyson Cinetic Launched in Canada

For the same money I can buy a half dozen vintage Kirby and Electrolux machines, each of which will do a better job, last longer and are easily serviceable.  Or one of each, a lifetime supply of bags, belts and maintenance and a few hundred left over.... hmmm

Best vacuum for small apartment without pets?

Hate, hate, hate (is that too strong? No, it's not) the crossover PN on that Intuition, it's a total PITA to use in real life. I bought one and returned it to Sears the very next day, and I had to drive 168 miles to return it... hated it that much. The red Progressive, D-T's first link, is an...

Alex Braun's visit to the Vacuum Museum

That Sear's Best Powermate is the vacuum I grew up with. Nice machine except for the power switch, my mom was always catching it on something and broke it off several times. That was the first vacuum I ever worked on.

    Worth it ???

I dont' see a PN in any of the pictures, just the onboard attachments... even with a PN, it's a bit steep, but it does include shipping...

    The Frankeneureka!

Charles,   I couldn't agree more... best left as it was assembled, it is a unique marriage of machines and in the original colors it has a charm that would be lost if painted.   Tom

    Which brushroll to get?

I would have called the police and had them come to retrieve my property and cite the owner for theft, if not extortion. I will not be bullied as a customer.
