people yank the tank out rather than releasing the catch and removing... this breaks the lip of the catch. You do have to buy a whole new tank, the catch is not available as a separate part. They are relatively inexpensive.

I just shipped 35 lbs of Electrolux Olymipa, PN, hose, all accessories and bags to Maine via UPS for $32. I find uciSupply to be rather expensive for used vacuums, but it does seem that they are getting more expensive in general. The Internet is wonderful for somethings but it is not so great...

The Chinese can and will manufacture to any quality specification, including the very best of the best.... if you're willing to pay for it, just like anything else. For the same money I can buy a half dozen vintage Kirby and Electrolux machines, each of which will do a better job, last longer and are easily serviceable.  Or one of each, a lifetime supply of bags, belts and maintenance and a few hundred left over.... hmmm

That Sear's Best Powermate is the vacuum I grew up with. Nice machine except for the power switch, my mom was always catching it on something and broke it off several times. That was the first vacuum I ever worked on.
