1960s Electrolux "save and Pay" Bank

I have an earlier Electrolux Save-N-Pay Bank that looks like a turquoise model G. The locking mechanism on it is designed to only allow opening when it is either empty or completely full, by depressing the "switch." I'm assuming yours would operate the same way. Jeff

    Hoover 725

Your restoration is looking good so far! Glad to see you found a workable solution for the brushes. The black & white cord you used for motor to handle looks like what they used to put on irons and toasters years ago. The bag is a replacement--but it's a Genuine Hoover replacement from the late...

    Royal 895 - Handle Assembly?

If it's a Health-Mor Sanitation System that you have, that would be even newer. Health-Mor started out as a distributor for the Scott & Fetzer Sanitation System (forerunner of Kirby) and did so until 1930, when they had a dispute with Scott & Fetzer over putting their own name on the machines...

    Hoover 725

Glad to see you back on here again, it's been a while! Nice find on the 725, good luck with the restoration. I have one too, with the optional add-on headlight, which became standard equipment with the 750. I have added the guard on the headlight since this pic was taken. Jeff

    Spending time preparingbthe Hoover gallery

Looking forward to the pics! Will you be parting with anything for older Hoovers? Might be some things I need, but need to see what you're going to be parting with. Jeff

    Getting to know me :D

Welcome aboard Duckboy! With a long-time interest in vacuum cleaners, you've found the right place! You'll find that many of the collectors here (myself included!) have also had a lifetime interest in vacuums! Jeff

    Royal 895 - Handle Assembly?

Your early Royal would have to have been made after 1928, because that was the year they changed the bag coupling, moved it from one side of the fan case to the other, and changed the rotation of the motor and fan. If it was made before 1928, a modern bag would not fit. Here's a picture of a...

    Lifetime Enthusiast, Reviving Collection!

Yes, the model 26 is a nice choice to restart your collection! I have one too, with the attachments that good friend and fellow collector Norm Brown gave me years ago when he was downsizing (Thanks again Norm!). I've replaced the bag with one that's closer to the original since this pic was...

    Kirby Classic III Bag Conversion

Nice find and amazing work on the adapter! And I agree, ALL the older Kirbys maneuver much better than the newer power drive models! And the attachments do pop up on ebay from time to time, so be patient and keep your eyes open. Jeff

    HOOVER moth crystals

What an amazing find! I knew about Hoover's demothing attachment (the Mothimizer) that went through several versions until the 1950's, but I never knew they had their own Hoover branded moth crystals! That can must be from the 1950's, considering it has the circle Hoover logo and mentions the...

Can't Believe I finally got one!

Nice find Marvin! That's one beautiful Classic III! One of my favorite Kirbys and I have one too, with everything except the Handi-Butler and Handi-Waxer. And you might find it interesting that I was selling Electro-Hygiene just a few years before you were selling Kirbys--about 6 months in 1974...

Picked up an old Royal Commercial Vacuum

Definitely worth saving! You'll be amazed at how beautiful it will look after you finish cleaning it and polish it up! And you'll also find that it does an excellent job of cleaning! And Ben is right, the bag was replaced at some point. The one you have on it looks like a commercial bag. Here's...

    Account finally accepted, greetings!

Welcome aboard! I'm into the vintage machines myself and most, if not all of my collection was built before 1985. And Electrolux is definitely one of the quietest, along with Filter Queen, Silver King, Air-Way Sanitizor, and most Royal tanks.

    Lifetime Enthusiast, Reviving Collection!

Welcome aboard Mikey! The 66 Air-Way is a good choice, I have one too! And so are the Hoover uprights, I'm assuming you are looking into a 26, 27, 28, 60, or 61, all good choices. I would also recommend a Lux XXX, Hoover Constellation, a Royal, and a Kirby to help round out your collection. I...

    Labor Day plans?

Having our usual family cookout. nothing fancy, just hotdogs, hamburgers, bratwurst, baked beans, etc. Main thing is getting the family together. Jeff

    Hoover Lark 14

Welcome aboard Peter! Glad you were able to get a Hoover Lark 12! The Lark 14 was blue and white, by the way. I also have a Lark 12 and hope to get an attachment set for it someday! Don't know if the converter is the same as the 119 (115 here in the US) but assume it would be similar since they...

    Westinghouse canister rebuild

I agree with Paul, that your Westinghouse canister was built sometime in the 60's. Here is a pic of my Westinghouse SC-1 Canister which was built in 1956. It's a special vacuum in my collection, as it belonged to my Aunt Lu (my Dad's sister), whose husband worked at the Mansfield, OH...
