    Kirby help!

Good Grief, the picture above for the low speed hardwire is wrong! I reversed the switch in my head when I said G&W should be connected. The proper two are R & Y! Is it possible to delete the bad text and image? The high speed is correct. Sorry about this!

    Kirby help!

I have tried both of these setting manually and it seems to work. Here is a really bad image of the high speed hard wire. If you run this I would pull the wires back into the rear cover, this was just a test… Hope this helps!

    Kirby help!

If the left pin is down there is continuity between pins G and Y and also between W and R. This is the high speed setting.

    Kirby help!

I found a nine volt battery today, stuffed it in my multi-meter and took the cover off my D50 to look at its wiring. My switch had four pins, G, W, R, and Y. In the automotive world left is always the driver’s side here in the states and right is always the passenger side. With both pins of the...

    Where do you get them???

I thought Brentwood was in the Bay Area. I have had good luck with Craigslist but have had to drive a bit to get my vacuums. • The 518 was in Aptos. • The 509 was from Rocklin. • The Royal 889 was found in Salinas. • The DS-50 came from Huntington Beach. No I did not drive down just for that, I...

I am finally finished with my first Kirby; Whoot Whoot!

Thank you all again for your kind words of encouragement. I spent the day before the end of the world using the Kirby to clean the house and boy did it need cleaning! After many hours and inflation deflation cycles of the bag the folds from storage are starting to relax, the bag looks much...

    Noob questions, I am confused.

Question One: Can anyone please tell me what the 50 and 80 refer to in the Kirby DS-50 and DS-80s? I have found nothing on the web and the owner’s manual for my DS 80 does not mention this. I sort of thought that the 5 in 50 might refer to the first year of production 1965 but the DS-80 was made...

    Restored Kirby D-50

Rats, I got all excited with your photo of the vacuum running; a right had drive Kirby would be way cool! LOL! Your vacuum looks stunning. May I ask what you did about the oval window on the light hood? I am concerned about removal and or cleaning of mine when I start my DS50 restore.

I am finally finished with my first Kirby; Whoot Whoot!

Thank you all for your kind words. Brandon_W_t; the bag came from Vacummpartsplusstore.com. It is their part number K501 and was $15.00. I purchased a second one for my 509. I like the bag, I am just not happy with the way it hangs on the vacuum. I think the new bag holder/chain might be a...

I am finally finished with my first Kirby; Whoot Whoot!

Due to a stupid move on my part the front cover is new and was polished by wheel. You can defiantly tell the difference between that shine and the hand job the rest of the parts have. Do not remove the big screw from the front cover you will strip out the cover and get to spend $40.00 more than...

I am finally finished with my first Kirby; Whoot Whoot!

That might be a bit of a lie, I would guess that I will always tinker with it somewhat. Still, I am relatively pleased with the results: • It did not burst into flames or trip a circuit breaker when I plugged it in for the first time. • It sounds a lot nicer, the bearings were shot. • Thanks to...

    New addition to the family

The madness continues. About the same time that I picked up my 518 I saw an ad on craigslist up in Rocklin for an old Kirby. The ad did not say much but it looked older than my 518. My newlywed daughter lives near there and picked it up for me. She just texted me and mentioned that it is a 509...
