Did vintage cloth bags filter better than disposable paper?

I think.... the old reusable cloth type bags are a far cry from modern HEPA bags. If you can, always use HEPA bags and throw them away when they are full. The idea that you're standing there shaking out dirt/dust into some kid of receptacle makes the hair on the back of my neck stand...

What did your parents/family think of your collecting vacuums?

It's true.... that if you don't have an electrician's 'fish tape', you can put something like a nut tied to the end of a strong string and apply vacuum to the receiving end of conduit. Magically, the nut/string will get sucked into the vac hose no matter how long the conduit is. Of course the...

    Electrolux Diamond Jubilee Manual Needed!!!

I have..... the OM for the Diamond J. What exactly now, do you want from it? I can scan any of the pages and send to your email etc. It is not for sale. I think I do have an extra G OM that I might let go for $ or trade. Kevin

Vacuum that pick up bowling ball?

I'm sure there..... is name of this phenomena;understanding something as an adult and going back in childhood memories and trying to apply that knowledge. It's often frustrating and impossible. I became a plumber.....I've tried to go back in my childhood memories and analyze my old house's...

    nOS Vintage Electro Hose

The generic..... hose I saw for the G et al back in the day were those light colored accordion like hoses with the ends glued on. I still have one or two somewhere. While they worked, they were cheesy and nothing to write home about. I suspect that while you could get an OE hose at a dealer...

    nOS Vintage Electro Hose

There was...... a tool....some dealers had it, but not all. There was a guy about an hr from me that bought out an old dealer after he passed, from the heir. I looked through his stuff for that tool, but never found it. Of course I'm not 100% what it looks like...... Kevin

    First Electrolux since childhood

If you........ really want the vac to operate 100%, you have to take it all apart and spa it. You can work/clean all the seals with Windex and get them nice an pliable again. That clear tubing that works the automatic bag feature should all be replaced with new. Be careful with the...

    First Electrolux since childhood

Actually...... the bronze G started with a stronger motor....distinguished by different color brush holders. Physically, I don't think the motor was 'bigger'. The bigger motor came with the advent of the Super J. Kevin

    First Electrolux since childhood

Great freebe...... but I wouldn't put a lot of time into that plastic wand, period or not. I have the PN1 that takes the metal tubes. I've never had that plastic wand, so I don't know how it's attached to the PN....maybe it only takes the plastic wand.....dunno. They crack, they had trouble...

Vacuum that pick up bowling ball?

Like.... I said above, too much suction with the wrong floor tools just makes vacuuming tedious. Even some of the earlier Elux floor brushes would have dog hair/cat hair stick to the leading edge of the brush. Then other designers put in those relief slots in the leading edge....problem...

Vacuum that pick up bowling ball?

Smoke and..... mirrors. Lots of vacs could do that if you got a really good seal against the ball. The idea of suction though is not to overdo it to the extent you have a hard time dragging the floor tools across the cleaning surface. Elux salesmen used the three steel ball test(or was it...

    Restored 1205

Unless...... he had another 1205 motor, most likely he put in a Lamb motor....most dealers do. They're OK, but I prefer the original motors. A lot of the problems with any old tank is that most people just think they're some old tank and so when something wet gets spilled on the floor, they...

    Why??

Don't.... even start with me and vintage stereo electronics. I've been in that for over 40yrs. We've gotten to a place where it's like trying to buy your way into Heaven. The people with the money attempting to do that, have absolutely no background in audio and no clue what they are doing...

    Electrolux model F

The Elux.......... salesmen were not always predators. I know of at least two that serviced their customers for over 30yrs......were never pushy and fixed their machines for pennies, if needed. My mother-in-in-law was one of those customers. She lived in the same house for 45yrs and the Elux...

Pulled an old friend out of the closet...

Very....... cool Chris on the 1205! Be sure to share the restorers name and contact info if you really like the job he did. Nice looking Super J...I have a few to restore....not sure how many. I have a lot of armatures and brushes.....should be fun. I don't know what to expect pitted...

    Electrolux model F

I don't...... want to get into a member Battle Royal(pun intended) but....... In one room that is carpeted sat something heavy that smashed the pile down. I've hit that spot with my Royal, my Hoover Convertible and the PN for the Diamond Jubilee. Guess which one is the only vac that...

Going to vac shops as a kid?

Sadly...... I don't have recollections of vac shops. I'm pretty sure the Rexair was taken care of by a salesman. I have no idea where my folks got the upright Hoovers and how they were ever fixed/maintained. It wasn't my dad....he would have just bought a new one. I wound up fixing everything...

Help with Electrolux Epic 6500 Power Nozzle

Aftermarket..... parts have become problematic because they're almost always made now of Chinesium. There used to be 'levels' of aftermarket parts and it was folly to pay the markup of dealers like Aerus. But when you buy a used Elux vac for $35, it's a bitter pill to swallow in paying over...

Rare find lands in the wrong hands

You can...... say that about anything that was human made.....'they're only new once'. It's also a tired trope. They get to do anything they want with the Olympia....just turn away if you must. Kevin

Rare find lands in the wrong hands

Yeah....... it's like winning the lottery. It happens to people who may not 'deserve' it but who are we to judge? At least they shared the vid and perhaps will read the YouTube comments. I bought a Diamond Jubilee new from a salesman....actually salesperson because she was a woman. We didn't...
