    Seen these vacs at goodwill

No confusion at all. I said the Super J motor lived on in the Olympia, Silverado et al. And indeed it came before them. Maybe you haven't seen the actual promo lit for the Super Jubilee. It was a HUGE deal at the time for Charlie and the Connecticut plant. They had invested over a million...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

As was discussed here before, the 1521(Diamond Jubilee) motors were made in a Tennessee plant under license by Electrolux. What I call the first full breakout motor away from the old Connecticut plant. It was smaller and LOUD compared to previous Electrolux motors. I've refurbished, sold, and...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

Electrolux USA followed the same pattern of sales that Detroit did: tell the people what they want. Whereas Electrolux Canada listened to what the customers wanted and wished for. Entirely different sales philosophy. And it's my understanding that the Canadian-made motors were better and...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

The 'anniversary' models are unique, of course....especially for a full line collector. Nothing wrong with them at all except the Super J motor was the 'talk of the town'. And it lived on in the Olympia, Silverado, et al. All were great, strong vacs. Look at it from the perspective that...

    And the Mystery Continues......

We had a Rexair in the 50s for hard flooring, along with a big HOOVER that bellowed like a bull for the rooms with carpets. I'm going to inherit a Rainbow/Rexair from a friend I'm taking care of.....oh boy. :-( https://www.ebay.com/itm/167599492719?chn=ps&google_free_listing_action=view_item...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

I've got some of those in the shed. I also have some anniversary stickered PNs I believe. The motor after that in the Super J was bigger and stronger. Electrolux in Connecticut retooled for it and lengthened their tank for it......lots of promo literature about that vac with Charlie pictured...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

Give someone online the illusion of power, and they get drunk with it. Given his MO, he probably has blocked so many people that he can't keep them all straight. I quarreled with a guy eons ago in an analog forum, and he threatened to block me from Audiogon for life. I wasn't even an Audiogon...

    And the Mystery Continues......

LOL.....well, that's one way to keep your rugs clean. In our culture, you chase rug dirt with vacuums. It's hard to imagine any other way. But then again, there's plenty of old archival film footage of people beating rugs outside, hung over lines, way back before I was born. Probably where the...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

LOL.....I'd forgotten that adventure until you wrote this...I, too, have been the recipient of foreign bugs....ugggg! It's so rampant in other hobbies that we talk about the rare times something comes clean. It's an anomaly these days. I collect vintage chainsaws. I bought one once off eBay...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

Yeah, no kidding! I've gotten vacs off eBay that were FULL of dirt. Enough so that it added to the shipping charges by weight. How lazy can you be.....geeze. I just quit telling people I collect vacs around here. They think it's the most peculiar hobby in the world. I used to field comments...

    And the Mystery Continues......

I've seen that.....I always thought it was a cultural thing, but never inquired into the 'why' of it.. Kevin

    And the Mystery Continues......

My tester says the Lewyt 55101@55"-60" and the 5580@55"-61". The 44, I'm guessing maybe came later?

    And the Mystery Continues......

So, my Vac-U-Tronic Tester has various machines listed on the back, and the performance in inches of water for that period of time....'50s. The 'McAllister-Ross' was listed @64"-70". That's the strongest by far, except for a GE tank that was 60"-66". I can't make out the model except for the...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

I've never found an Elux in the trash bin, although I know that kinda thing happens all the time. I did have a guy give me a giant Sears wet & dry shop vac that had sucked all the water out of a flooded basement, and he had just left the last tank of water in it. Frigging mess, but it did...

I have Rainbow Rep coming to my house

I talked to the Lighthouse Motor guy, Brent, I think it was. Really nice guy....yes, he has a whole line of American-made motors selling for just over $100, depending on application. He doesn't know what fits what, so you search for tags and motor specs....along with careful measurements. He has...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

Well, that would be me with the shed of 200 vacs & parts....lol. It all actually came from an ol' Electrolux rep who died after 45 years of service. His kid thought it was all just junk....except for a few Hospital Gs that he sold somewhat high before I fell into it all. I don't know how many...

    Seen these vacs at goodwill

I used to think that because I live in a small town, eBay was my only default source for old vacs. And now that I quit collecting and people know what I have....the 'stories' come in. Like a local guy who has 200+ Electrolux tanks in a warehouse, etc. Or that the local sew & vac shop has thrown...

I have Rainbow Rep coming to my house

As I updated my post and checked....that Electromotor 6500-298 is manufactured in CHINA. Was listed @$375 previously......probably when it was still made in Tennessee? I've had much bad luck with corded name brand tools and Chinese motors. Their bearings are cheesy for one. I don't care if the...

I have Rainbow Rep coming to my house

That's not the information I had yrs ago by the people in the biz. The Diamond Jubilee motor of the 80's tank was completely outsourced they said. Not to be confused with the larger Super J motor previously made in-house by Electrolux in the Connecticut plant, that lived on in the Silverado et...

I have Rainbow Rep coming to my house

If I remember correctly, the Diamond Jubilee was the last of the steel body tanks and as far as I ever went with the Electrolux line by interest. Up until the DJ, the motors were from the old Super J. The DJ was the first motor completely outsourced and not without some trouble in the beginning...
