Royal Lux D770

I won it! I bid on an auction on JDirectItems Auctions in Japan through the proxy buying service buyee.jp. Nobody else bid so I won it for $20.43. Now I have to wait for it to make its way to the Buyee warehouse in Osaka and pay for shipping to the US. Love these old Swedish Luxes.

I will, but 15% of $20 is only $3. Shipping will be probably $150-$180.

I'm guessing a 100v machine won't mind 120v too much.

They are fine on 120 but out of an abundance of caution I normally use them on 100 volt transformers I have around the house for our assortment of Japan market vacuums. One of my D795s needed a new motor and main board. The originals were overheated charring the main board and melting a connection. Apparently a common enough problem that Lux had a kit with a new main board, motor and wires. The new motor, a powerhouse from Domel, says it is rated for 100-127 volts. 50-60 Hz. The cord has 115v/25A stamped on it so I run that one on regular 120 volt house current. I really love these old Luxes.

Congratulations! Is that a Japanese logo on the bag door? Is the power nozzle a model E3? I have a limited knowledge of the AB Electrolux power nozzles, but it seems that the E3 was produced for a long time and had different covers if not other variations. France PurificationLux lists a model E34, too, which was made from 1966 to 1992.

Not sure what that logo is. Normally I remove vac shop stickers but if it is something peculiarly Japanese I will probably leave it for the weirdness factor. My working D795 has a Japanese vacuum shop sticker on it that I will never remove.

The power nozzle is a Ze3. The graphics on the Ze3 and the white hoses are not correct for that model Lux but they are correct for my older D730 and my Viking V720 ( much nicer power nozzle than a noisy old Vibragoomer or the later and painfully loud Eureka Rugmaster / Rugmuncher thing some of the Viking branded ones came with ). That is half the reason I bought it ! I have a spare gray hose of the style the D770 would have come with and an extra dark gray Ze3 with the red Lux logo, also period correct for the D770. This was kind of a two-fer for me because it lets me complete two older Luxes I have.

I used to have one in that model style. I forget the model. I found it far too wide. It was masive! It just kept getting hooked on things when I was pulling it around. I also could not get bags for the beast. I am in middle school, so it was great for dragging my friends around on it. In NZ we don't see as many ze3's with their machines. Only about half the machines that could have a ze3 have a ze3. Cheesewonton, you should try a 300 series Electrolux. I love my 338 because it weighs about 2/3 the weight of the BIG one. It is also skinnier so therefore better for mobility. I wish I could get a Canadian dometic 345 with the ze3.

Yep, the D748 - D795 series were some big hombres. I'm accustomed to big American style canister vacs so it doesn't seem excessively large to me. I like the bigger bag chamber compared to later Luxes.

I'm buying these from Japan as they turn up on a couple of on-line auction sites. They were never sold in the US except for the D720 and D739 ( I think ? ) sold here with Viking Husqvarna branding. I have a D730 and D745 from Japan. Those are narrower and appear to share the same steel main body as the 300s. I also have the Viking V720, our version of the D720 that needs to be cleaned up.

The big problem using these in the US is that the original two stage Swedish motors cannot be serviced if/when you wear them out. The fans are pressed on the motor shaft and can't be removed. There are no 100 - 120 volt motors sold with the six fins on the brush holder to keep the motor from spinning, and the spout the tension spring sits on. No problem with 240 volt machines, Domel sells a really nice replacement motor for old Luxes but nothing in 100 -120 volts. I have a friend who wants to start teaching me 3D printing and my first project is going to be a six fin adapter that can be screwed on the top of an Ametek motor using two screw holes cast into their normal brush holder. Fingers crossed!

I am getting another 775 ( that was the model of my first one). I got rid of my first one as the motor started to sound horrible. I got the first one from a worker at the recycling center. This one is from someone on Facebook.

Very cool. They are great vacuums. Oh, and while the original Swedish motors cannot be repaired when they wear out Domel sells a high quality 220-240 volt two stage replacement motor for them. There is also a kit to convert it to use a modern single stage motor also from Domel that really zings them up. It's a vacuum you never throw away.

I wish I could get new parts for many of my vacuums. I just don't have the money. Anywho, I have learned to just put it on the "to fix pile" until I have money or time to fix it. I have gotten rid of a few things over the years and regretted it. Lessons learned I suppose. I might try to do a Sam Watson on my d745 motor.

Ah ok, I know who Beko is. Enjoy his videos a lot. But I don't even think Beko could get one of those two stage Swedish Electrolux motors apart. The fans are pressed on so there is no way to remove them for disassembly. Like I said, not a big deal for people living in a 220-240 volt country because you have drop in replacements. In the North America and Japan your choices are more limited and require some innovation to locate the motor and keep it from spinning around.

I think I will try to fit an old motor from something else in there. I will figure it out I hope. I will have to crack it open and have a look inside.
