Member Intro and Hoover Model 62 Questions (When was it made?)

If it's blowing dirt out check the rubber seal where the body of the vacuum meets ( attaches )the metal part that attaches to the bellows. Or you tape job is not to good. It's hard to patch a bellows. Also there is a clip that goes on the top of the bag to seal it.

Member Intro and Hoover Model 62 Questions (When was it made?)

I also have a model 62. It's my favorite Hoover. It has a really great sound when it's running. I bought it 35 years ago for $2.35 at a house sale.Back then you could get all the parts you needed. But now it's a problem. The bellows you are going to have to hunt for it, also roller brushes and...

My latest eBay purchase is finally here!!!

If your model 29 is like my model 62 You might want to look at where the handel assembly is riveted to the main vacuum housing. the rivets may be wore loose allowing it to slop around. I had to drill the rivet out and I replaced it with a screw and nylon lock nut. screw head from inside the...

    Hoover 62

I don't know why ? I also have a model 62. Everybody here says good things about them and they like them and desire them but if you ask were to get the roller brush's or outer bags or bellows or if any body has parts it gets strangely quiet. I have had mine for about 35 years and back then I...

    Favorite Vacuum

Hello Logan It's nice to see a young man like yourself have a genuine interest in things mechanical. A lot of young people today are totally absorbed in their I phones and computers never to discover how cool it is to build or repair something with their hands. You can learn a lot about many...

A new Sanitaire VS. old Hoover convertible?

I was recently at my local vacuum shop ( yes I am still lucky to have one )and looked at a Sanitaire comercial upright for curiosity. It did not look much different than my mid 1960's Hoover convertible. It was fairly expensive but the actual construction was very similar. My question is? Is a...

Super Sweeper A lot of the older homes from the 1910's 20's 30's and some into the 40's had onle one electrical outlet per room with a octopus of cords plugged into them like Ralpies (Christmas story). On a hoover convertable your only talking 2 or 3 wraps extra on the handle I found sometimes...

Replacement cord Brian, when you replace a cord the replacement is probably going to be an aftermarket cord. What I usually do when I replace a cord is get a 30 ft. cord. The original is like 20 ft. long. The 30 ft. cord lets you vacuum a lot more area without removing and plugging back in...

    Hoover Commercial Porta Power

Yes I think I will pick up a new Hoover cloth bag for it. I have a lot of vintage items that I like and want to keep and have learned over the years to buy NOS or reproduction replacement parts for the wear items or things that naturally deteriorate with age. Bill,

    Hoover Commercial Porta Power

Thanks for the informative replies. The little vac found a good home. I think I will stick with the cloth bag. How long does a cloth bag usually last in daily use conditions? Are the cloth bags still manufactured or have they been discontinued? Would it be advisable to pick up a couple of spare...
