Coming Out Of The Vacuum Closet

I liked vacuums from at least 4 yrs. old. Then cars and other appliances. Maybe it was the different aesthetic designs. I often asked people which brands and types they had. I spotted an aunts seafoam Electrolux "G" behind her sofa, and asked where's the hose? It's a secret I was told. Wards...

The horrible truth about central vacuum systems and why every non-Canadian millennial hates them.

Wow, not even gonna mention beating the dead horse. Use what you want to. A stick vac is fine for quick tidy ups.

How to oil bearings of a FH52000 Hoover steamer/carpet cleaner/shampooer?

It doesn't have ball bearings, only sleeves. You can try some sewing machine oil. or penetrating oil spray. I have a mitre saw that does it too. It is still running after having the noise for years.

Worldwide Electrolux Cylinder/Tank Type Z Series Photos 1949-c.1986

Some models which I am familiar with are later than say 1970? Harmony, Ingenio, Dimbo, Slimline, Dolphin. Some may just have a different name per their market country, like the Ultra Silencer?

Worldwide Electrolux Cylinder/Tank Type Z Series Photos 1949-c.1986

Yes, I think a few Kenmore canisters were by Sanyo. I like the Japanese Panasonics too. I think one was used as a prop in the home of Simon and Wai Tung in the 1993 "Wedding Banquet" movie. Unless it was a Haitachi but it was large and white with dark brown or black bumper strips, chrome wands...

    Favorite central/canister cleaning head?

Depends on the carpeting,. I find that wooden brush rolls get threads around them that grind in lines. The Vibragroomers all keep the dense pile carpeting looking good.

    Central vacuum

We have only two wall inlets. Also, the HP true cyclonic models have no filters to restrict airflow.

I don't see the electrical receptacle on the canister for the hose.

    Favorite central/canister cleaning head?

Having both deep pile dense area rugs and soft delicate fiber ones, I use two. A Eureka/Beam Rug master, and a softer bristles only Beam Imperial.

    Split level central vacuum

My 10.5 amp 2 stage Lamb motor never got that loud. Just some minor squealing you only heard when it shut off. Then one day it just seized up. The original brushes were still very good. It did last 28 years.

If you could re-engineer any machine in your collection, what would you change about it?

I have a Plastiflex cv electric gas pump handle hose. When I use my Eureka Vibragroomer power head from the 1279/89 canisters, it's a bit too short for me. The Eureka steel grip is a few inches longer.

    The cordless stick vac formfactor

I saw a funny reel posted yesterday by Owen Perkins from the Central VAC threads. He installs MD mostly. They call them stick vacs because when the battery dies, or parts aren't available, or they cost more than half of the price as new, you stick it!

If you could re-engineer any machine in your collection, what would you change about it?

Eureka steel canister vac electric hoses. The hand grips had no swivels. This made the hoses tear faster. The later crush proof hose was better, but still no swivels. I think the Hoover type wire reinforced hose was more flexible even without swivels. I don't like the final Eureka hoses that...
