Not all vac shops have a space one can remotely mount a machine, where I worked for years we did, and there was only one bench for vacuums, so one inlet. Worked well to just leave the low voltage hose plugged in and just have a switch handy when you grab the hose end.

I've got a Dyson DC23 and DC22, both Motörhead models. I actually think they do a better job on carpet than their uprights, it seems more powerful and the way it makes the carpet look is more impressive, plus I feel like the bulkier cyclone arrangement was more effective than what the uprights...
