Thanks for the idea of using boning ,I found some extremely heavy duty zip ties at work which may have the same effect. Luckily the awesome people at Harolds sewing and vacuums in spokane wa just so happened to have a new old stock Royal commercial bag that I can use while I fix my Stark bag.

Hey Guys I just wanted to show off my latest acquisition and boy was I in for a shock when it arrived, it was described as being in used condition but as you can see in the pictures I cant find any evidence of it ever being used.
To clean it I would go to an automotive store and pick up some spray cans of electrical contact cleaner and use a plastic bristle brush to scrub with ive used this trick many times on alternators and starters and it seems to work like a charm.
Thanks for the feedback I think I am going to go for the 501 to match my other Royals. Hopefully I can find one with the attachments and it looks like with how many of them there are on ebay I could piece one together if I ever needed parts.

Sorry to revive a long dead post but I have information directly from the user manual that came with my Royal 993 and 880. According to the book it says to use sae 30 motor oil and not to use thin or sewing machine type oils.
Well bad news both of my brush roll orders were cancelled so the search continues however it sounds like the vacuum shop in town has a line on them so here's hoping fingers crossed.
