If anybody is interested I'm selling 3 vintage vacs. All need cleaned and polished and are as found. I just don't have the time to work on them so these are looking for a good home. I'm asking $20 each at the sale. Federal (Chicago made), Hoover, and Johnson's Wax floor polisher.
Thanks...
Looks like lots of options. The Westinghouse bulb isn't glass either. All plastic with the led mounted on the base shining up through a cone shaped prism like diffuser.
WE05120 T7 LED bulb need solder globs
I posted about the Westinghouse 05120 1.5 watt T7 120VAC LED bulb a couple weeks ago for the old Royals. I just received my bulbs and had a similar experience. The bulb fit loosely in the socket and of course it didn't work. The contacts were nearly...
A-Bag dating
If his death certificate stated his father was Sebastian then that is probably right. I thought he was the 3 year old son listed in the 1880 census for Philip Geier of Cincinnati. Goes to show how tricky history can be. Maybe he was the same boy, but was a nephew living with the...
more...P.A. Geier
Not to beat a dead horse....but while I'm on a roll here's more:
Somebody needs to organize all this and put it together as a supplement to Ben's pdf file for the early models. I've learned the first models were named by letters...so I will assume Model A was the first model...
more on Philip A. Geier
Found a bunch of patents that were assigned to P.A. Geier and added them in a separate folder in the link above. More details can be found here:

Early Royals clipping files
Jeff & Tom,
Always glad to share.
That in-line switch in the handle is cool. In the 1913 Good Housekeeping seal of approval article they mention that the handle came apart so it could be attached to the attachment hose for cleaning curtains and hard to reach...
A few more ads (all public domain) and a link for early Royal history:
Also I found a bit about P.A. Geier.
P.A. (Philip A.) Geier (b.1877) was a younger brother of Frederick A. Geier and son of German born Philip Geier. Frederick Geier was the founder of the Cincinnati Milling Maching Co...
Have spent a little time learning about early Royals and found several different early models.
1st model: 1912
3 wheels, height adjuster on rear wheel. $37.50 Narrow nozzle. First ads appear June 1912. Attached ad is from Dec 1913 for same model. Received Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval...
update
Sorry I don't have edit privileges. Just wanted to make clear the Westinghouse LED replacement 05120 is for the 120vac bulbs used in the older Royal uprights. Also I need to check my glasses because the Royal I bought today at the estate sale is a model 994 not 996.
Bought my third Royal today at another estate sale....this time a Model 996 (7amp USA motor with oiler). Learning a lot now that I have an 880, 996 and a 2028. Been playing with headlight bulbs and thought I'd share what I learned and an LED replacement.
Headlight bulbs: Drop-in Chinese made...
B bag cleaning
Thanks for the info about the brushes. Yes the 2028 does have a 7.5 amp drop-in motor. I haven't had time to open it up yet, but have completed the bag cleaning. Decided it probably wasn't such a good idea to let the wet bag dry around the metal collar fitting as it might rust...
Hi all. I'm new here and never considered myself a vacuum collector, but I guess figures don't lie. I currently own a Kirby Heritage II, Royal Dirt Devil, Royal 880 upright, and just bought a Royal 2028 upright. Have had several other old Royals over the years including an early pre-ww2 model...
