i cut them with an angle grinder about 2 inches from the coupler, and then use a pair of vise grips to pull out the spring reinforcement. nathan thomas sells nos cloth blanks for 25 bucks if you would rather have cloth. i have 2 and they are great

look for a little nub on the cordwinder spool and slip the spring over the nub

thats a nice silverado, if your interested, ill sell you an eh4 clone for 20 bucks plus shipping, has a new grey pistol grip on a beige hose. chrome flaked off on pistol grip end but the hose works great. for 20 bucks you cant really complain to much

power supply you could add an ac to dc converter like a 12v wall wart tapped off the headlight power leads, something like this could work but you would have to modify/replace the socket...
