HI Folkes
cant remember where i found this pic of this lovely machine. it probably belongs to one of you guys. am i right in thinking its the Z60? only my nan had one in this exact shape but hers was clad in deep red leatherette i think and the end caps were black. would this be a different model? if i remember correctly, saran hose heavy twin tubes rubber crevice, z25 type flip over, oh yes and machine handle was black but the same shape as this one. purchased i believe around1950 any clues my good friends???

Hi there Si, the picture you've used was taken by me! I also used to have the machine you described with the red leatherette and black end-caps - unfortunately, I've since sold them both, and I can't remember much about them, not even the model numbers!

Cheers for that my friend, I have a feeling they were a bit cheeper pehaps than the z30, 55 62 "loaf" series, however my Nan used hers from 1951 right up to 1978 my Dad used to service it for her but when its motor burned out she skipped it tools and all, to my horror! and replaced it with the cheap version of the 345 thingy! Still sticking with electrolux mind because of the performance of the one like yours

Hey Si,

I believe the Z60 was contemporary to the Z62 as a cheapie model, and was replaced by the redesigned Z64. I guess your nan had an earlier version, contemporary to the Z48 or 55. These lower priced luxes seem very rare now!

Interesting mate, going on the time nan bought that machine was apparently jan 1951 when she moved into a house, giving up her flat for my newly wed mom and dad to move into. They bought their z55 and my nan bought that one, together i think from the co op? I think her pipes were odd you know,Si, thinking back, I know the one was rusty they were heavy, but ours on the 55 were the more modern dull lighter weight ones. I remember, her upholstry nozzle was grey and ours black, mom used to call it the "little black thing." both dusting brushes were identical both rug nozzles identical like the z25 "old" one, spray jars the same with the separate on~board jet nozzles, but nans floor brush smaller than ours. Both leads fitted each machine. But i am sure nans hose was saran cream with red x pattern ours was cloth, I didnt think saran was out till much later? Maybe it was a replacement both those machines were at least 16 yrs older than me! What do you think Si?

Hi Si:

The machine you have pictured is a Z60 made in England from 1957 to 1960. It was the lower line machine and the Z62 was the delux machine at the time. I've included a picture of it and its parts that I picked up on line a while back. I'll do another posting on its predacessor.

This is the predacessor of the Z60. Model Z48 - made in England from 1951 to 1956 with the Z55 being the delux model of the time. Its interesting to note that some had a reddish brown covering while others had a very red covering. (see pic in next posting)

Thats it doug! Thats the machine my Nan had im pretty sure it was in the browney red. So i was right about the year 1951 it all fits now! But i am sure the hose was that shiny saran like I say it may have been a replacement by the time I was born 40yrs ago and the upholstry noz was grey plastic. The metal rug nozzle pictured seems to be the type issued with 55s and now , we know,48s at that time, but my nans 48 and our 55 (1951) both had the earlier type like the one the 25 came with, and like i said rubber crevice tools. Finally got a pic of one with the z60 youve shown us!! Cheers doug very helpful speak to you soon mate

That's also my machine, from the picture I used to sell it on eBay! Same machine as is featured in the pic Si posted. I made quite a profit on it - paid £1 for it, sold it for £80! Ka-ching!

Those are some spectacular cylinder models pictured. Vintagehoover, good going there! I wish I had that kind of sales luck! Collector2, I think you might have some extra tools available, I need aluminum wands and all tools suitable for an early '50s GE cylinder. I have the hose. Thanks if you do.

I'm afraid I'm not much help there - Havnt even got all the parts for my GE's They are hard to find here - most of my spares are electrolux accessories and repair parts (need switches for the 80 series? - I have dozens)
