Upon checking the status of my Whirlwind, I found a site that claims a 74 year old man owns the 'worlds oldest' vacuum cleaner. It's an electric tank machine made by Goblin. Nice machine so check it out. As we all know however, it's not the oldest! By the way, I have posted the correction and told them about my whirlwind, which will turn 141 years old a few days after the convention.

Hey Alex:

Thats been up for several years. It actually says its the oldest machine in Britain in daily use in the original article. Its a Goblin Triumph and was made in the 1930's

Thanks Doug

I had just typed in 'worlds oldest vacuum cleaner' expecting to find notes I'd written on my Whirlwind and other historical machines. When I saw this, I found it so funny that I had to share it with the club.

Makes you wonder what else is out there.

Thanks for the info guys. It would be interesting to know what else is out there. When it comes to vacuum cleaners sold on the other side of the big pond, Hoover really did clean up (sorry for the bad pun, I just couldn't resist). The term over there was 'Hoovering'.

As I said, thanks guys.

Alex...

the term over here still is "hoovering". Both my parents refer to there vacuums as "Oovah's" despite the fact that my mum owns a Lux and my Dad owns a Numatic Henry.
