Hi, very new to vintage vacuums…. I have inherited a working Electrolux ZA65 vacuum. Given it’s 60+ years old, seems to have all the bits (?) and it actually works, I’m hoping someone could help me with some info on other than that it’s pretty cool, if it’s collectible or worth anything? I’m in Australia. Thank you so much!

As my great-grandfather supposedly said about horses, it's worth whatever you can get somebody to pay for it. I'm sorry I don't have an exact dollar amount for you, but you can get a pretty good idea by looking at what similar machines have sold for on eBay or other similar sites.

Welcome to vacuum collecting! I agree that vintage items vary in their value according to the "eye of the beholder". That said, condition and completeness contribute, so those look like pluses for your cleaning ensemble. The ZA65 was produced in England from 1960 to circa 1967. The colors were company-named rose red and ivory, so matching attachments such as the hose and floor tools add to its worth; along with the original literature.

Btw, the actual week and year of production are coded in the serial number.

You're welcome.

Hmmm, I was unaware that 'ZA' was the model prefix for Australian Electrolux cleaners, too. The 'Z' is the international symbol for 'integer' (originating from the German word 'Zahl'). Electrolux cleaners from the 1930s till circa 2000 had it incorporated in their model numbers. Cleaners modified from the original or Swedish designs were identified with a second letter like yours. A couple others were ZB for Canadian cleaners and ZC for those in Italy. It may have had something to do with the wiring or other specifications of individual countries.

I believe the first 3 digits of the serial indicate production in the 5th week of 1962. A YouTube poster in the UK taught me that.
